Without proper conservation of dreamentum, every dreamer who was moving when they woke up would add a portion of their rotational energy to the dream-continuum. The buildup effect over time would make the dreamworld rotate faster and faster until EVERYONE would be flying…

methinks that alex’s legs look to long for him, maybe felicity came back with him, since the author made a point of making them holding hands clarified while they were dropping, and she is a real cat underneath the covers?

The time-space relation between Dreamland and the real world is inconsistent. For example, with time, gbfluteman’s assessment is correct, while a day was only 30 seconds and a few hours was a night, in both worlds the 8 years of him not dreaming and returning to Dreamland was the same.
In relation to space (area where he pops back into Dreamland), one time when he was kissing Nastajia he reappeared standing with his hands on the edge of the lookout tower at the Elven castle. So maybe his body moves on autopilot or something while he’s returning to Dreamland or his position is corrected to make up for the changes there since he’s been gone. Either way, it would be fun if he reappeared in midair a few feet above the ground and fell flat on his face.

Well, not necessarily. One day, he was gone all night. Another day, he was only gone for 30 seconds or so. So, it all depends on how Dreamland’s time passes in relation to his own how long it will have been.
