My guess is that they got offered to make those ships but didn't know what they were for, to be honest, I would accept the offer too if I didn't know he was going to use it to kidnap the children. then again paddy doesn't know for sure if the dwarves did it, (now my LOTR knowledge comes into play) dwarves don't really like forests and unless Big Red offered loads of money, or something, I dont think they would do it, then again they WERE very loyal. I wonder what Nicodemus would offer them besides money, maybe threats, ...
