I like finding cool, cute and artsy stuff in ads. And cool tee shirts, fun hats and bags, unique stuff like that… things that can only be bought online and not on a store. I also always like finding new webcomics to read.

  2. JalenJade

Video games, comics (physical and web), computer parts.

  3. David

Something that isn’t the usual spam looking ads. I’d be fine with just about anything as long as it isn’t the overly obvious spyware giving ads.

    • scott christian sava

Thanks David. But I still need key words. Things to bring up to my advertisers.
      Got any?

      • David

I’d say try ads that have a similar theme to what you have in the comic. Linking to other things that have to do with Fantasy and other similar styles. Hey, maybe to that site where the “Hello My Name Is Inigo” shirt is at and ones like it.

      • alexandercarter

i love videogames, sci-fi, as for books i love the series by Terry Goodkind “Legend OfTheSeeker” and manga/anime.

  4. JakesDad

Me? I like stuff that caters to nerds and fantasy fans.

Most importantly though? I like the ads that pay you guys the most.

  5. Ross Perkins

Food: must stay away from Carl’s Jr… so tempting…., clothing: I wear golf shirts, jeans, and Newbalance shoes, stores:limited due to small-town size–we do have a Best Buy but have to go to larger town next-door for Target and Whole Foods, brands: favorite ones include Burt’s Bees / Jason Natural Personal Care Products, books:mostly fantasy, movies:comedy and sci-fi, music:geeky stuff, or whatever’s not country.
Organic products would definitely earn my clicks.

    • scott christian sava

      Perfect!
      Thanks!

      • alexandercarter

me? i love italian, german, chinese and japanese, but i love american the most.

    • crystal wings

Augh, food ads make me soooo hungry though. I’d prefer indie and fantasy stuff. There are a lot of Etsy.com shops that would cater to those.

  6. Wynne

I agree with Lora and JakesDad. I also like ads for other, totally awesome webcomics.

  7. gingerbread

Comics! More comics! And as other people said, books, movies, geeky stuff. I also confess to liking Martha Stewart type stuff – cooking, crafts – but I doubt that appeals much to this comic’s demographics. :)

  8. Medron Pryde

    games and electronics. :)

  9. sythiar

I’d also say, since this is a web comic and most people come here for the reason of seeing great art, I assume that there should be more ads showing either other web comics (other web comics are my favorite kind of adds – other artists out there are supported and people clicking on the ads find new interesting stories to read) or art related things – e.g. art software, art homepages, art ware (the traditional stuff).
This is all I can think of so far.
I don’t think that ads about food or clothing are a good idea. Unless they are for Dreamland Chronicles T-Shirts. :) Movies may be a good idea, since Dreamland is also a visual entertainment medium.

    • alexandercarter

i think we should have a fanfiction/fanart on the website.

    • gbfluteman

Scott, what about showing ads as far as Art schools are concerned? For example, perhaps an ad for SCAD would be in order? Might help some of the budding artists that are viewing your work to give them something to shoot for as far as schooling goes. I have friends there, that’s what made me think of it.

  10. Kristle

I like anime and television series. My favorite television shows include Firefly, Grey’s Anatomy, House, and Doctor Who.

    • alexandercarter

same for me, but i love a the series legend of the seeker on the CW and history and dicoverychannel stuff

  11. scott christian sava

    Thanks guys!
    Keep ‘em coming!
Just naming things you like is great.

  12. kittin

as this is a family comic you could put up things for kids as well like toys,or magic the gathering card game stuff,

  13. Sar-fitb

Hmmm, stuff I like… Music:Brobdingnagian Bards, Oldies, and Folk Music. Clothing: Costumes. TV Stuff: Dr Who, Quantum Leap, and Star Trek NG and VOY. Other Web Comics I like: Phoenix Req, The Dreamer, Gunnerkrig Court, Xylia, and Dreamless. Computer Games: Thief 1,2,3, Zork Grand Inquisitor, The Myst games, Age of Mythology, Scrapland and loads of others.

This is all I can think of for now. I hope it all works out for you guys.

  14. michelle4jerusalem

i agree with others – i’d prefer ads for handmade paper goods (not etsy preferably, but like boygirlparty) or other new (to me) comics, you know what would be awesome? to find out about fantasy print comics not available online! this i would actually buy.

food – whole foods or trader joes (man, i miss them!) – this isn’t the target market though. miss starbucks coffee too! clothing, i buy it all on eBay due to only just now finally having even the Gap in Israel! i love fantasy movies too, but would they advertise here? kids’ movies certainly should. music – again, i’m not sure how my tastes tie into your global audience…i’d love to hear about the new dido or jack johnson cds whenever they come out though.

  15. Shiloh

anime, manga, comics, video games, fantasy stuff in general

  16. Pam

Things I like to see and likely to click on are food, dragons, fantasy genre related, books related to dragons and fantasy genre, writing, info links for travel. Uhm. Can’t think of anything else right now.

  17. Breedlovejumbo

tee-shirts comics statues travel books webcomics

  18. mason010

    in this order, lol.

World of Warcraft, other Webcomics, anime, Dreamland Chronicles T-Shirts, regular Comics (marvel and DC), Music (techno!), and last but not least Cool stuff (hats, totes, pins, buttons, awesome comic related stuff, and PLUSHIES!!!))

  19. Geoff

Video Games, Other Webcomics, and other Geeky stuff too.

    • gbfluteman

Isn’t there a magazine out there that caters just to “geeks” and “nerds”? I just can’t remember the name of it now….

  20. Master of Stories

    movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:P
books, videogames, webcomics, fantasy stuff, werewolfs and vampires, music, drawings(I like to draw)

  21. Dark Togepi

    Games… games… GAAAAAMES!!!

    Sorry… it’s just a passing phase XD

Books, tech gadgets and computer parts… but, mostly, games!

Keep up the great work! :D

  22. Xenoth

I would say the ads i would most like to see would be for foods not available in most stores. Maybe some soda packaged in video game patterned cans, or some candy from another country. That sort of stuff. If you could find an advertiser with that kind of selection, i would do more than click on it; I would buy their items and tell them you sent me

  23. Kryssie

Steampunk ads would be kinda nice since there aren’t many of those about; maybe some book adverts (though, my personal taste in books lies in the “true crime” genre…which is the polar opposite of your comic); con ads? Like for DragonCon, OrcCon, etc. Especially if you’re going to be at them… >_>

  24. martiansushi

My favorite ads are those for other webcomics. That’s how I’ve found most of the great ones that I read now.

  25. Maggie

Hi! I’ve been reading for ages, never commented before. I love your strip!

Some of the ads that I’ve seen around that I find more interesting than annoying include these:

-Vagabond Jewelry, Labyrinth Leather Craft, and other online retailers of things that are artsy, unusual, handmade, and beautiful.

Along the lines of handmade and unusual, this may be a weird prejudice on my part, but I have a favorable predisposition to Etsy shops.

-Witty t-shirts, fun retro clothing, things like that (yes, I’m girly).

-Books? I’ve rarely seen banner ads for books, but they generally interest me when I do.

-Movies, if that’s a thing you can do — it’s fun to be able to see the odd trailer for a movie I might otherwise not know about.

-appropriately-themed things — sites that sell fantasy (or Viking or Celtic, which, let’s be honest, are about the same as fantasy in today’s world) themed jewelry, art, etc.

-links to other cool comics and art sites!

  26. ElvisKungFu

    organic food
    legos
    wii
    nintendo
    amazon
    skateboarding
    basketball
    Etsy
    movies

  27. Nex Terren

    Let’s see here…

History (Middle ages, dark ages, Greco Roman, World War I, World War II, the American 20s and 30s), Star Wars, fantasy, sci-fi, Nintendo, video game RPGs, warfare, web comics, comic books, writing, computers, board games (not so much tabletop RPGs), movies (Things that focus on plot and character as plots and characters, moreso than anything else; things like romance, action/adventure, etc. being their genre for the sake of it don’t really interest me), TV Shows (Psych, LOST, Firefly…), annndddd…

That’s all I can think of right now. Not really a big music person, although if you had to pin me down there, I’d go with light metal (is that the term?), rock, and maybe a bit of, and I quote, “Traditional pop, jazz, big band, vocal” (Lookin’ at you, Sinatra), and orchestral music.

… That felt quite strange ranting about myself. XD

  28. AnimeGuy

I like whatever will keep this site running in optimum condition, besides, my browser automatically blocks adds, so yea… do whatever you want, wont stop me from reading the story!

  29. Scott Christian Sava

    This is wonderful!
    Thank you all so much!
    Keep em coming!

Feel free to be specific with names.
Sony, World of Warcraft, Coca Cola, etc.

  30. Jaci

I agree with a lot of what I see above. Also, environmental organizations get my clicks! A few more besides as far as my regular online shopping venues: Overstock.com, Amazon, Novica.com, Ebay. There are smaller ones too, like Pyramid collection. Not sure they’d advertise with you. Anyhow, hope this helps!

  31. RG

Ummm… I have very eclectic tastes, but here goes:

    Fantasy
    Sci/Fi
    movies
    comics
    novels
    action
    adventure
    t shirts and other merch…

    Hope that helps. =D

  32. SeriaEvans

When I read online comics, I’m more interested in hearing about other online comics in their ads. The only ads I’m sick of seeing are the ones telling me I’m the 100000th viewer or winner and win an Xbox and yeah. It’s stupid. XD

  33. Aquired good

I do have to say. I like adblock… Sad but true!

  34. Schnerples

other online comics, books, t-shirts (although I don’t often buy them),

TV: Lost, Fringe, NCIS, Doctor Who,
    Movies: SciFi, Chick-Flicks,
Books: LotR, Pendragon Series, Dean Koontz, James Patterson,

In general I love things that are SciFi and Fantasy oriented without going into “Adult” themes.

  35. Crazy4pie

There’s a really cool website that doesn’t get enough attention…it’s called DoInk.com…it’s a drawing/animation website and it’s incredibly awesome. Would be cool to see them advertised on here.

I am very into animation, personally, and art.

    • gbfluteman

I know there’s a link to Deviant Art, but shouldn’t they get an ad, also? That might help boost some of their traffic. Perhaps they’d be willing to pay? Who knows!

  36. David C

My favorite ads are ones for other web comics. I’ve found plenty of good web comics through those. Heck, I found Dreamland Chronicles through a banner ad somewhere.

I really hate the various weight loss / muscle gaining scam ads (acai berry *cough*). I also hate the ads with dancing aliens telling you Obama wants you to refinance your home or go back to college. I basically hate ads that I don’t feel represent a good, legitimate business or product.

  37. Bunny

this is a children friendly comic so EVERYTHING that is in the advertisements should direct to things that are children friendly sites, comics etc. That way if they click on something by accident… they don’t end up in a bad place.

no weight loss stuff… children already have enough problems with thinking they aren’t pretty enough or skinny enough or handsome enough or tall enough…. as they grow up….

nothing that leads to overly gore or violent things…. i know they need to see it sometime…. but lets let them see it when they are ready for it….. or when their parents think so…. nothing that will give the younger readers nightmares…

nothing to do with the naughty stuff…. kissing is as far as it should go …. depending on their age .. that is gross enough for those who fear cooties…. and again …. they need to learn it at healthy rate….

all i am saying is that it says the comic is kid friendly and i think everything that this site leads to should be as well….

  38. scott christian sava

    You guys are the best!

  39. Random

DEFIANTLY other web comics. I found this site by an ad form another web-comic. Most of the web-comics that I read I discovered from ads. I think that they would have to relate to the genera that this comic is in (Fantasy ect.) and be family friendly. Hope my opinion helps!

  40. Neosun7

Books, other web comics, games, anime, cartoons, food, clothes like shoes and t-shirts, travel, history, stuff like that.

    Specifics:
Anime- Avatar: Last Airbender, Studio Ghibli, Detective Conan/Case Closed, Digimon, Fruits Basket
Books- Harry Potter, Peter Pan, Sherlock Holmes
    Cartoons- DISNEY, Animaniacs, Ninja Turtles
Comics- Inverloch, Peanuts, Spider-Man, Dovecote crest, Corner alley 13, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Earthsong, Order of the stick, Catena comics, Sandusky, Penny arcade, The Dreamer, No Need for Bushido, The Phoenix Requiem, Dreamless, and Marry Me
Games- Bionicle, Final Fantasy, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Knights of the old republic, Mario, Pokemon, Sly Cooper, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Smash Brothers, Zelda
Movies- Princess Bride, Sound of Music, Spirit, Star Wars, Transformers, Wizard of Oz
TV- CSI, Doctor Who, Firefly, House, M.D., Psych

  41. nooneinparticular

    what neosun7 said.

    scifi Doctor Who, Stargate,

  42. WolfCry

It’s likely (or at least true in my case) that readers of the comic like good stories, and can’t get enough of them. Fantasy and Sci Fi themed books, movies and especially games would be a nice change from your average ads. Other comics, Medieval RPGs and JRPGs, and even Electronics would all be more appealing.

  43. alexandercarter

Scott, i absolutely love this comic and id love to see more just like this one

    • Scott Christian Sava

      Thanks!
I do have links (up top on the menubar) with some links of similar comics too.

But I think the Project WOnderful ads will also help.

  44. technotreegrass

Music, definetely, especially bands that aren’t really on the mainstream radio. Previous ads introduced me to Captain Dan and the Scurvy Crew and Alestorm, THANK YOU! I’d love to see what other bands that the ads could introduce me too, and the two bands sing about pirates so more bands that feature the same would be totally AWESOME! Webcomics are a must, and video games especially. Since you can’t have ads for the usually popular rated M for Mature games, the semi-clean T for Teens and below could use some appreciation, and sometimes new games drown in the wave of publicity for the bigger M for Mature titles and I’d hate to miss a good one.

  45. lulululu

Cute and funny t-shirts and stuff like that, other webcomics (I found Red String through this site), music would be nice.

  46. sco3tt

What do I like? Dewdrops on roses and whiskers on kittens . . . no wait, that’s not my favorites.

Video games, health and nutrition, weightlifting, comics in any medium, renewable energy, both kinds of cars (there’s Fords and ‘them other cars’), sci-fi, movies, animation, music, humor, now THESE are a few of my favorite things.

  47. Erynn

video games, roll playing games (the significant overlap between them), cats, fantasy, literature, comics (sci-fi and fantasy, think of it more as ‘the creative stuff’), art and crafts, did I mention gaming?

  48. Masterclif

Though I’m a little late, I’ll give some keywords:
    Roleplay
    Wizards of the Coast
    Dungeons and Dragons
    Audio Books
    Art Books
    How-to Books
    Posters
    Art Design
    3d Studio Max

That’s all I got. Everything else has been mentioned already.

  49. Dreamer

definitely more of the fanatsy element would help for advertising.
    Adventure Quest
    Magic card game
    Pretty much anything Artix Entertainment.
All the other stuff has been said

  50. Faith

Crafts… Tshirts with awesome logos/phrases, online card games and rpgs, how to books, Writing and art materials, Books/novels/graphic novels/ comic books… etc.

  51. That Jeff

I like building stuff–models, contraptions, etc. That help?

  52. Chef Justin

I’m going to have to say video games (World of warcraft and PS3), movies (action, sci-fi, fantasy, comdey), web comics, and food (like japanese candy, cookware, and cooking sites).

  53. Stephanie

Well I just like the 3D, I mean like wow! I think you should make a game of it after you made the movie ;P
I think lots of people will play it and you’ll get rich. Maybey you’r able to make lots of 3D movies. Then you’r like the new Disney.

    <3

  54. Nenya

In terms of intangible items: other webcomics.
In terms of tangible items… stuff that ships to the places you folk call “overseas”. Nothing’s more frustrating that seeing a lovely item and discovering they don’t ship to Europe. Grar.

  55. even snakes have hearts

Anything fantasy! Keep it going with the theme you already have. Books and videogames would be especially superb.

  56. Aramis

History, sci-fi books and movies, boardgames and Role-playing games. In short, a major chunk of geekdom.

  57. Brian

New releases of books by authors that I actually read.

  58. Brent

Books (all), roleplaying games (nothing WOTC though), legos, models, computer graphics

    • Phil Sevetson

Brent, is that avatar from Dreamland (Is there a Dreamland adventure I’ve missed???)

      • Phil Sevetson

        Never mind, found it. Thanks.

  59. Decent60

I actually really hate advertisements. They sometimes can be useful but for the most part though, they cause more problems than being useful (such a s ruining page layout or being just being annoying). But there are those who do read ads and may find them quite useful.

However, I do enjoy reading up and finding things about Roleplaying, Fantasy art, computer graphics, anime, comics, computer tech and computer programs.

  60. Phil Sevetson

Animated movies, F&SF movies and video, children’s fantasy (e.g. Where the Wild Things Are), comics and esp. the webcomics subgenre, computer RPGs, BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

  61. Gina

I like fun ads that show me nifty stuff that I haven’t seen on the web…like, t-shirts or cute products to buy. I like to do the bulk of my shopping on the web, so they help me find new stuff. Also, I like to see stuff from new webcomics that I haven’t read or heard of. I came to this site due to a nod from the creator of “Sheldon”. Specific products/ stores that I like are:

    -World of Warcraft
    -Amazon
    -Anything from Cafe Press
    -Etsy Stores
    -Michael’s
    -Barnes and Nobles
    -Borders

    Thanks bunches!

  62. ironbandit

Doh! I forgot to leave the voting gateway address:
    http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx

The TWC site is on PDT, or 3 hours after EDT. A new day for voting starts at 0300 EDT, so instead of worrying about who makes the first comment, think about doing some good for Scott and vote for TDC at TWC.

  63. gbfluteman

Scott, in regards to your sales thing you asked about, could you either Facebook message or email me and give me more details as to what this position would involve?

    • gbfluteman

Or you could post it here, doesn’t matter to me. I just figured that might work better.

  64. Trina

The ads that I CLICK on are usually for funny t-shirts, interesting jewelery or new webcomics. Things like Snorg Tees, Shana Logic, Simply Willow. Things that I can’t buy in a shop. An I-pod I can buy in a shop :)

  65. Jason

I like funky geek stuff that might otherwise be hard to find; interesting RPG video games; comics and webcomics; almost all things sci-fi; and overall fantasy.
I think your best bet is going with the interesting geeky stuff that’s otherwise hard to find. Stuff like thinkgeek.com, except probably not ACTUALLY thinkgeek since it’s fairly well-known. xD

    Just my two pence worth.

  66. SilentMech

    RPG Games
    Webcomics
Maybe a few artistic sites (see above for some examples)
Other than just these three things, I have no really great ideas for ads for you. Hope things work out well!

  67. rgirls

I don’t really care as long as they are not really flashy and draw more attention to themselves than the comic does. But what do I know, because I have never had any ads where I live.

  68. Francisco

I apologise if this is my second (or fifth) post but my first one appears to have been lost.

    What do I like?

Webcomics, Films/books/TV Series (Drama (romantic or crime) and/or Sci-fi/fantasy), German language stuff (to keep in practice), News/Current Affairs (but I’m already covered there)*, Computer applications and useful peripherals, Mobile phones, Good but reasonably priced clothes, Aids for blind people (my other half is blind) and Planes (love to window shop in case I win the lottery).

    * NOT SKY as I don’t like Murdoch’s Evil Empire and it’s too down market for me!

  69. rgirls

I don’t really care as long as they are not really flashy and draw more attention to themselves than the comic does. But what do I know, because I have never had any ads where I live. Hmmm… I am always looking for dinner ideas. Music and movies. Bargains.

  70. scott christian sava

    Thank you all so much.
    All of this really helps.

  71. Lurial

I’d be interested in Fantasy or Sci-fi … Movies, books, TV Series, video games, comics (web or otherwise), and any random interesting trinkets related to that.

I also like new art supplies or art programs as I am an artist. :3

  72. Thomas

Okay definitely like food. : ) I like good movies and really really really bad ones. (Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter anyone?) Fantasy and scifi books. Not really big on clothes just like to keep myself from being naked though occasionally stylish. I like computer games and mmorpgs, I’ve been getting away from console stuff but still like playing them lots. that’s all I can think of well maybe cooking too but I’m not really sure what you can do with that. Oh and I’ve been looking for a good windproof umbrella.

  73. Riverfox237

I don’t have much preference towards different sale items themselves, but I’d like to input that ads that are funny or at least interesting to look at are always nice. =) Even if I don’t buy the item, I am much less hostile to a sudden side-of-the-page ad if it makes me laugh or looks pretty (or both!). I also think you guys should avoid doing ads for sites that have a more mature theme, as seeing half-naked women on the side of the screen tends to ruin whatever I happened to be doing on that page of the ‘net.

Ads for comics and books are fun because they do actually occasionally spark my interest enough for me to go take a look. The more well-crafted and interesting the ad, the more likely I am to investigate. =)

  74. Rodrigo

    BOOKS
    COMICS
    RPG GAMES
    TABLE GAMES
    and COMPUTER GAMES

  75. JurgenS

I’d click on ads for green energy gizmo’s. Green products and s.c. “fair trade” stuff.(Do you people have that? It’s like normal things coming from developing countries, without money grabbing dealers in between. The real farmers and workers get “fair pay”.) And eh..nope, flabby belly’s don’t do it for me..:-D.

You should also look at the “style aspect” of advertizing. Your sit has a specific “stylism” that make the average advertizing look too brash…eye-sore-ish. Most advertizing for “green” stuff is much more demure/stylish, earth-tones an such. look at “treehugger.com” for an idea what I mean.

And pleeeze…No animated advertizing with pop-ups, pop-unders, pop-left, pop-right. Those are annoying as heck, and mostly make me runaway from a site like chased by Cecilia on a bad hair day..(plus they go on my “HOSTS” file with a nice 127.0.0.1 adress…)

    • JurgenS

      -Edit-
Darn.. I meant “Nicole on a bad hair-day”(ask any mixed or black girl what a “bad hair day does for their disposition, and you’ll understand why I’ll run   ) “Cecilia” is an aunty of mine..dunno why i typed her name (although she’s scary too on a bad hair day…)
