    FIRST

…and why does she tease us with the facial expressions?! I wanna know what it says!

    • James E.

      In before the haters.

  2. James E.

I guess that means she can read it.

  3. Limax

Wow… and hour earlier than usual… I guess the non-DST scripts aren’t in place yet. :) Obviously Nicole is quite touched by what Felicity says and she’s got some fond memories there. :) Wow. A lot can be said without dialog.

  4. eric

    i love the last panel

  5. Tolin42

Can I get an ‘awwwwwww…’ everyone?

Scott, any chance we can get a slightly closer view of that last panel… you know, to make out the first few lines? An optional link would be great if you… you know… give in. :D That way if it’s spoilerific at all then we’ll have been sufficiently warned.

I mostly just wanna see Nastajia’s handwriting a little closer. :D

    • SilentMech

Agreed. It would be well worth it to be warned of maybe *counts quickly* the next 93 cliff hangers your planning to leave us with. Or more if you feel like it. *hint hint, nudge nudge*
Any way, it would also be worth it to, for me, to see Elven writing done by Nastajia. I could not resist typing that. So sorry to those of you who groan on reading this because of the many, many, many, bad commercials on a similar concept.

    • Thomas

      Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. :)

  6. xaxnar

    Just wonderful.

It wasn’t all that long ago that she’d put Felicity totally out of her mind; now it looks like she is just blown away to hear from her again. Suddenly there is magic in her life again – and she hadn’t even known it had been lacking.

I can see where people are going to be staring at Nicole, wondering why she can’t stop smiling.

  7. JakesDad

Nice range of emotions, Scott. For me, it gives me a decent idea of the content of the letter.
    Frame 3: Dear Nicole,
Frame 4: Got your letter, so glad to hear from you after all these years.
Frame 5: Something shocking, perhaps about captivity and/or living under Nick’s thumb. Betraying Alex, why she left Nicole, etc.
Frame 6: Something that has Nicole’s full involvement and attention. No skepticism left.
Frame 7: Speaks for itself. Bond re-established.

    • gbfluteman

Nail on the head, JakesDad! Only thing, and I hate critiquing anything at all cause I know how I feel when non-music majors critique something I do- only because some people act like they know everything when they don’t have a single clue how many hours were spent in the practice rooms holed up in there without social interaction before playing in public (which probably explains why music majors are…interesting folk ;-) )- Nicole’s eyes do look kind of cross-eyed as she’s reading in panels 3, 4, and 5. Is that just a trick with the graphics software that needs to get worked out?

      • SilentMech

I think that maybe Scott over compensating for the glasses… Maybe… Doubtful though. It may just be the writing getting smaller? I don’t know. Wish I did. Now its going to bug me and I have no room to complain about it cause I know next to nothing about it (it in this case being graphics software).

  8. Wrath

Absolute awesome. You can see the tears welling up in panel 5. I agree, this page speaks volumes without any dialogue.

And what’s with all this “First post” nonsense? I see that everywhere and it seems pointless.

    • blahmoomoo

      It’s called ego boosting :P

      • spoffyspiff

Being first post on a major page where people are eager to comment on is always a boost but to acknowledge it, or have nothing meaningful to say other then “First post” seems really extremely rude.

  9. Gremalkin

    Great panels, excelent jobb !

  10. kittin

love it love it love it.

  11. sco3tt

As always, beautifully done. Between the lighting effects and the woodgrain I had a hard time paying attention to anything else, they both really stood out.

You’ve done this before, haven’t you!

And TWC made some changes, hopefully we won’t see any more . . . creative voting.

  12. scott christian sava

    Thank you all.
I ALMOST put dialog in…but decided I could pull it off without.
    Glad you like it.
    :)

  13. Ictiv

Strange feeling… One part of mine says: “Aaaaaaaawwwwww” Another (still) says: Good to know Felicty’s allright. Yet another wants some Chezzeburger. And the final is just druming on my skull while yelling: “STOP TEASING US! TELL WHAT SHE WROTE OR FORGET ABOUT IT!”

    Strange feeling indeed.

    Much love :)

    • Rachael

      haha icanhascheezburger.com is the best!!!!

  14. mikhailovitch

Scott, no dialogue, wonderful expressions, great body language, great storytelling. Way cool!
This really is art of a type and subtlety that few other comics even attempt. I love it.

    • gbfluteman

AGREED! I’ve grown up reading comics all my life (for crying out loud, I probably read Spider-Man while you were drawing it! lol) and this kind of stuff is not seen very often- and when it is, it is not usually well executed. Excellent job, friend!

  15. ChristineA

This page definitely didn’t need dialog. You conveyed her emotions perfectly. Although, I’m a bit curious what the letter says, I’m just happy to see Nicole & Felicity reconnect. :D

  16. TedRx

    LOVED IT !!!

    (thxs for vote link too)

  17. firecat88

    Hi, Scott!

I just wanted to say that I love this whole page. The range of emotion is beautifully done, and I’m actually kinda glad you -didn’t- put any dialogue in. Speech/thought bubbles in this page would distract away from Nicole’s expressions.

  18. spoffyspiff

Wow, one of your best pages ever when conveying emotion. Still very curious of the precise contents, and eager to see Nastajia’s handwriting.

  19. JurgenS

    Hello Scott,

Just got a nice package from the USA (IDW)..$100,- poorer and 3 books of sheer joy richer..Aaaaand..FELICITYYYYY! YEEEHAW!!

I had never heard of this graphic novel , just stumbled into it searching for action-figures(yup, I am a geek..guilty as charged) The Felicity figurine was sooo utterly cute ,that I could not help searching further.(You know how delightfully “lost” one can get while googlin’ ) I found Your site and was amazed by Your direct interaction with readers. You have a good-heartedness that shines through in the story. I LIKE the human interaction, the character building. It shows a sensitivity that is lacking in most “brash&dash” seq. art.

The minimalism in most frames is refreshing and lets the reader/looker concentrate on the characters and their interaction, not distracted by clutter, effects, HDR, Bloom etc. etc.(there is some ,but very subtle) although some of the backgrounds are stunningly elaborate.

I was also very pleasantly surprised by the range of emoting that could be done with renders. The figures have just enough of a connection to reality, but also have a deep rooted connection with a lot of European seq. art.
Search f.i. “Sam” by Jan Bosschaert.(one of the best “comic” girl-painters Belgium has to offer, coincidentally, those “strips” as we Dutch-speakers call it, also play partially in a dreams-realm, but are more of a “gag/funny” sorts)

Your characters avoid the pitfall of ” ultra-realism” that kills most rendered films and comics. They are personalities, not just a demonstration of computing-power.

The page above is an attest to that. It is a person, someone you can connect to, and it brought a tear to my eye(I am a wuss….and YES ,no dialog needed, the expressions tell the story very well..).

    Cannot wait for Book 4!!

Sorry if I am ramblin’ on a bit..

    • Scott Christian Sava

      Ramble on Jurgen. Ramble on.
      :)

Thank you very much. And I am so glad you got the books.
I hope IDW took good care of you.

I’m almost done with Book 4 and can’t wait for you all to have your copies.

Thank you again for the kind words.
      Scott

      • JurgenS

IDW did! I was quite stunned by the speedy deliverance. Shipped the day I ordered. At Dutch customs 2 days later. At my local postoffice after another day.

I like ordering directly via Your site, because I then have a reasonable assurance You will get Your well earned reward.

Being an ex-ilustration major [ I always mucked up the inking. worked too much through...ended up being better in sculpting..heh] at our local Academy of fine Arts, i know how hard it is to get a living out of art. I takes stamina and sheer tenacity…

book 4..This Year?Or the next (Ido not mind waiting for quality seq. Art…Yes, I said ART!!!)

  20. Ansley

Scott, i’m glad you didn’t put any dialogue; the scene it self is already priceless. Great job =D

    • JakesDad

So sez the person with a Nicole Avatar!

Just a little bit of bias, there, hmmmmmm? :-)

      • apstorm

I see a young Paddington avatar, currently. The default avatars seem to cycle randomly.

  21. RG

And belief is born anew… :’-)

  22. Albone

Aw, it’s always so nice to see her so content. :)

    • gbfluteman

This is a side to Nicole that we have yet to see! It’s a nice change of pace for her to not be her whiny, stressed out, doctor-ish self. It’s like she’s a kid again in this set!

  23. Lemmy

I love the fact that there were no words in it! Any dialog would have taken away from it. This strip was perfect Scott. It takes real skill to do what you did here. Bravo!

  24. Silverwolf

I know that the eyes are in the position for convergence (they both point in a bit to focus on a near object) but in later frames it seems like the convergence reflex is exaggerated to the point of eyes being crossed. Panel 3 looks fine, but the eyes just seem to drift inward to the point where in panel 6 each eye is pointing at the opposite edge of the parchment and seeing past it.

“Dear Nicole, I had Nastajia print one of those ‘Magic Eye’ pictures on my letter! It’s really cool, if you cross your eyes long enough, you see what it is! Your Friend, Felicity. PS: Send Cheezeburger.”

    • JakesDad

Yeah. I have to agree that panels 5 and 6 look a bit to much like “amblyopia” which is commonly called “lazy eye.”

  25. bmonk

    Girl talk!

  26. tailman

Keep ‘em comin’, were nearly to 1000 pages!

  27. S.K.

Woo hoo, I haven’t got on this website for a month

  28. Rachael

    AUGH! WHATS IT SAY?!?!?!

  29. Jac

Nicole looks soooo cute when she smiles ^^

that last panel of her ’squee’ is simply made of win!

  30. Tchalla83

Never has so much silence spoken so loudly! awwwww(there you go tolin)
