I would propose that rock giants do not have sexes and rather as their personality matures, they adopt what other races see as sexed traits. Further, defaulting to gender-specific verbiage only in the presence of species with sexes. Alex, Kiwi, and Nastajia probably imprinted the male gender on Paddington.

As for reproduction, it’s through fission by ritual combat! They just wail on each other until a piece breaks off and the small amounts of rock giant dust from the other starts the process of development from small, barely sentient boulder to little rock giant.
