For the pirate ship thing, I look at that the same way I see the orcs in Lord of the Rings. There really is no good reason why they should be considered inherently evil and ok to kill, but accepting that simplification to black/white morality is just part of the suspension of disbelief for me.
This truly is a well told story. I'm not sure what it is that develops such connections with the characters, but I've not felt like I was this 'in' a story since I read Dune back in high school. It may be because we're so involved with their struggles, feelings and emotions, that it's hard not to connect with them on a human level.
Agreed about reading through it quickly. I've probably read through the series at least twice since my initial reading in December 2011 (taking longer on the comments, as you can see). I'm really looking forward to getting the books, though educational/living commitments will have priority for at least another year and a half or two.
That's more thought than I put into the adverts. I figure that if Google said they'd pay Scott for clicks, they had to be aware that sites like this have fans who will click on them for that reason rather than what's being advertized. I guess in a way, you're still supporting the sponsors by showing (albeit fake) interest in their product, and increased traffic on their site.
I read your post, and now demand a cookie for it.

Hi Jon,
Just finished your wall of text and actually enjoyed most of it. I, too, was a little upset about how the pirates were treated, but it occurs to me that from a little boy or girl's POV, this was their kind of funny. This IS Dreamland, after all. You just have to believe that..
1. they deserved it and..
2. they survived the long fall to the ground and..
3. they had a long walk back home grumbling all the way.

Okay, been out of the loop for a bit, but just now, I caught up to today's page. Just reading that thing is an effort. I can't imagine how nearly impossible writing it is. Well done!

So my comments will be more relevant to the comic in general than this once off post, but I gotta get it all out of my system:

-They stole a pirate ship? Yes, I get it, pirates are scum, they've probably done worse themselves on a daily basis and stealing their ship by force is only a once off thing. But still, really? No mercy? Not even a friendly lift home? You are the King's personal associates, advisors and defendors, here to demonstrate to the world that Nic's way of doing things is unacceptable under any circumstances, so start acting like it!
I find it so hard to take the ship scenes seriously, because I keep thinking to myself, "I have no idea who the original owner of that ship was, but it sure as anything is not you! GET OFF!!!" Also, I think it's a bit of a harsh steriotype to assume that all residents of the nightmare realm who speak with a cornish accent and carry personal protection are free game for random acts of violence, intimidation and theft. Isn't that racism?

-When describing this comic to friends, I say that it follows the following rules:
1. If you think it might happen, it probably will.
2. It will take twice as long to happen as you think.
3. When it happens, it will be twice as epic as you imagined.
4. On the off chance that it doesn't happen, something even more epic will take it's place. (Like the scene where Alex meets Felicity instead of Nicole. That moved me more than a REAL reunion would have.)

-What's most amazing, is you really pull me in. I don't know how you do it. I like to write fiction myself, and although there is something about a comic rather than written text, there is something more. I can't put my finger on it, but there must be some rule of thumb, process or system you have in place to make sure your work grabs me tight and doesn't let go. When a character is scared, I am scared. When a character laughs out loud, I am often laughing out loud with them. When a character hurts, I am hurt. When a character is in awe, I'm in awe. When a character is excited, I'm excited. How do you do that?

-Reading it all in one short stint is amazing. I can glance at each page for a few seconds and I really feel like I'm there with you. Reading it daily... well, I last gave up well over a year ago, but I'm gonna try it again.
As I'm sure you can imagine, it can sometimes be a bit of "What? You still haven't managed to get to sleep? I have! Then I woke up and went to sleep, AGAIN!"
I know it's easy to criticize, but I think what was missing was chatting in the comments section. I'm gonna try reading comments and adding to them daily.

-The adverts on your page, if I click one I'm not interested in, I rip your sponsers off, but if I click none at all, I rip you off. Is there some way I can have a larger list of adverts to scroll through, and still give you your propper tribute for leading me to it? I want to be able to hold my head high and say, "I supported the people who supported dreamland, and I've got a super-cool-thingy-whats-it in the mail to me as we speak!"

-Finally, this last comment is not directed at Scott, but the group in general. If you have read my entire rant from start to finish, post me a reply. Get used to me. I hope to become friends with you all and be one big movie quoting happy family.
