I think Scott considered the different ways this scene could play out and decided having Alex in Dreamland worked better for the story.

Sure, Niviene or Nastajia could have said “Show me the pond near Alwx Carter’s home, but this way Dan and Nicole will see Alex in his armor.

As I understood there have to be someone in Dreamland actively picking the place to show and since neither Nastaija or Niviene knows where that place is, chances are Alex HAVE to be the on concentrating on the portal for the pond to show.
