Concur. It’s the same in the Midwest. We leave off words from the beginning, like in this case, but tend to add words to the end of the sentence; like ‘where’s the dragon at’ when other people would say ‘where’s the dragon.’

I suspect that’s your cultural roots showing through, Scott. I don’t know where you’re from originally (I’m sure you said somewhere back in the archives, but I can’t remember), but I know you’ve lived in Tennessee for some time now. (It is Tennessee, isn’t it? Or Kentucky? argh … *archive dive* … yep, Franklin, Tennessee; but been elsewhere and started in … New York?)

Anyway, as a fellow resident of the southern US, my mind automatically understood the implied “what”. I’m at a loss to explain why, but dropping the “what” from an exclamation/question like that seems fairly common around here; I suppose it might be common in other parts of the US as well, but might be confusing for overseas or ESL readers. (Or maybe it is just a southern thing, and will tweak the New Englanders and Californians, too. I’m no linguist; I’m just shootin’ from the hip … )

On an unrelated final note, did you know that if you Google your name, there are 25,500 results? And while I didn’t check them all, I did skip through the pages, skimming as I went, and I only found 8 results (and those at the very bottom on the last page) that weren’t about you. Pretty cool, huh?

I just have a separate bookmark set up. I have a list of favorites there that I vote for daily, and lemme tellya, since Richard put up the “Go Next Comic In Your Favorites List” button on the page (for them’s registered and have a list) it speeds up the voting greatly for the 3 dozen or so in MY list.

Still, with the directions Scott is taking us now, I’m greatly surprised and disappointed that his comic has dropped out of the top ten and is languishing at #20. It would please me greatly to find TDC as my second favorite, even though it is my true favorite amongst all that I read.
