Hope you’re enjoying the pages so far.
Just wanted to update you on the movie front. Things seem to be going well.
My buddy Tony Bancroft (director of Mulan) and I had a wonderful meeting with an animation studio.
I’m very excited about it and hope to tell you more when I can.
We MAY be going animated.
More as I can tell you.
Scott has decided to name the university after the cartoonist who created Little Nemo in Slumberland: Winsor McCay. Little Nemo is the primary inspiration for the Dreamland Chronicles and still amazes readers over a hundred years later. Read more about Little Nemo here:

Winsor McCay also created the animated short: Gertie the Dinosaur. It is regarded as the first animated character with an engaging and appealing personality.
Alex, Dan, and Nicole’s institute of higher learning now has a name: Winsor McCay University. Now help choose a mascot!

In case my first comment isn’t visible for awhile (awaiting a moderator to approve), Scott decided to name the university after Winsor McCay, the creator of Little Nemo in Slumberland. Little Nemo is the primary inspiration for The Dreamland Chronicles.
You might want to mention that the name change for the university came about as Scott started writing the screenplay for TDC… In honor of the creator of Little Nemo in Slumberland…

Also, if the movie does go animated, the university name would be a cool “shout-out” to animators and the world of animation.
I *still* think Post-soviet feminism loving Dragon Skulls(Welsh ones) are the way to go on the mascot front…
Of course… that’s the first thing I’d ask, when meeting rock giants for the first time…
Besides, hasn’t it been established that they were herbivores?
That was in a conversation between Paddington and Kiwi if I recall correctly. I believe Alexander was otherwise occupied at the time.
I have to admit, those particular rock giants are impressively taller than Paddington… even taking in consideration that Alex is sitting, in the first frame…

If it was my movie I would have real actors for real world and keep CGI for dreamland.
Why would Alex be instinctively afraid of rock giants? He’s been friends with one for years.
The answer to that is because Alex is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Well, Paddington used to be only slightly larger than Alex, so when they became friends, Alex didn’t know how big rock boys got. If he’d met Paddington for the first time in adulthood, he’d be afraid. And he still doesn’t trust rock giants in the absence of his friend.
But he should know better than the “eat me” comment as he knows rock giants are herbivorous.

the only thing I’d fear is accidentally being stepped on.
but I’ll give alex the benefit of the doubt. after all, he went to sleep with nastajia being in danger in his mind and coming back to dreamland at daylight and seemingly at a different place might just have confused him a little too much to be able to think straight.
we’ll see in the next pages, I guess.

I like the way you did the lighting and texture of them, Scott. They almost look transparent. It’s cool!
Alex is being a little silly. I mean, isn’t his friend a rock giant? So shouldn’t he know these things?
Second, I was reading the description and went, “He knows the guy who directed Mulan?!”. It’s probably my favorite Disney movie of all time.

Looks like thoughts of Nastajia have gone to the back burner while he ponders being a meal for the rock giants?
Seriously, how long has he known his rock giant friend that he doesn’t know that they are vegitarians…and generally the good guys. Oh right, this is Alex…he’s thick. Also, ANIMATED!!!!! That’s so awesome!!! I can’t wait to bring my kids to see your work.
Clearly Paddington isn’t his closest friend if he doesn’t realize he’s talking to a rock giant. Poor under-appreciated Paddington
live action and animated both have their merits, but I’d love to see Dreamland as live-action
I refer you to the live action Dragon Ball Z movie and related series. Expect to hate live action butchering of an almost legendary series.
Ughhh!!!! I had to go back A LOT of pages because I was on a trip to Florida for a week on spring break but now i’m back and I have PSSA’s at school. I’m really nervous about it. It began yesterday and it ends on Tuesday…..

I agree! So many things can go wrong with a transition from comic form to real live action (see Dragon Ball *shudder*). Animation would be awesome. And I hope there will be several movies, too.

Interesting. I don’t think that the sword is truly reflecting here because we’d see a distorted image of Alex and the other rock giants if that were the case.
The vertical line reflection in the sword in panel #3 appears to be Alex’s arm.

I would propose that rock giants do not have sexes and rather as their personality matures, they adopt what other races see as sexed traits. Further, defaulting to gender-specific verbiage only in the presence of species with sexes. Alex, Kiwi, and Nastajia probably imprinted the male gender on Paddington.
As for reproduction, it’s through fission by ritual combat!
They just wail on each other until a piece breaks off and the small amounts of rock giant dust from the other starts the process of development from small, barely sentient boulder to little rock giant.
Cool idea. I don’t know about the ritual combat, though. Maybe a mated pair gets together and does something similar to the pottery wheel scene in “Ghost” …

Even if it’s not entirely 3D graphics, but I don’t want to see this story torn to pieces or turn into a watered-down version of Narnia (see: latest version of Alice in Wonderland).

Well, have you heard of Andre the Giant? He played Fezzik. If you watch the bonus features you can tell not only how much everyone loved him, but also how sweet he was.

It’s a cigarette replacement that uses cartridges of nicotine [that are heated to produce smoke that feels like the real thing, I assume] instead of burning tobacco plus all that other junk. Definitely not something that belongs on this site.
I got a similar ad on the bottom of the page saying “Introducing the Electronic Cigarette” showing a cartridge being placed into a cigarette-like tube. I assume it’s the same thing; I didn’t bother clicking on it.

2. I would love to see this story in a series of animated movie film. I hope that it would be a quite accurate adaptation. Scott seems quite cool chatting with his audience and letting them know about his future plans. I also like the ongoing conversation about the movie script!

OMG! I <3 Mulan! If your story were done in the same style, I don't think I'd be disappointed. It sure would be a drastic change from the characters as we know them, though.
