Consider the rest of the dreamland inhabitants, there’s basically no hunger, no homelessness, no wars, no real fear of pain or death. Whereas Nic has been exposed for countless years to humans who experience all of the above. Humans have a need to control their environment so that they can guarantee that nothing bad will happen to them or the ones they love whilst knowing that someone out there is also doing the same to protect their own people – and so conflict is born.

I wonder if the nightmare realm is a reflection of the growing loss of innocence in younger and younger children in our modern society?

I’m starting to believe that Nic might not be evil but feels that he needs to control the dreamlands to prevent some cataclysmic event he believes will happen (caused by humans) that he is trying to prevent
