Thanks for your patience this week. It looks like 3 pages this week due to my work schedule with the screenplay and all.
See you on Friday for another page.
oh and… love the page!
congrats on being first. lol.
Great page. Love how you can really see the damage to Alex’s helmet. Not only does it have the claw marks, but you can see how strong nick is when he popped it off, the small debris from the helmet showing this point.
You tell’m nick! Now crush his skull before he wakes up!
And yet Nicodemus, the sword has made its choice…
You’d let a sword decide who rules your nation, neigh, your realm?
um have you heard of sword and the stone. the legend of king arthur….
or see the movie the last samurai? swords have a huge place in fantastical history- they can be prophesies, living beings, magical, etc
“A dead ghost from a stone giving out swords is no basis for a system of govenment!” 😉 -Monthy Python (somewhat changed…)
Better a sword of wisdom, than a big manipulating flame thrower.
And he’s supposed to care? If the king is incapacitated, the next in line is to receive the crown. Any avid fantasy reader knows this.
Like Alex really cares. Dan never entered Dreamland, and Alex was there most of his life. Not all royal successions passed on to the firstborn.
Even the Israelites, with their strong sense of the Firstborn’s rights, had several younger brothers becoming the more important: Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Ephraim; David, Solomon–and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
And I’m betting David and Solomon were both Kings of Dreamland, esp. Solomon.
Arthur did mention David and Solomon
don’t remember where, though
I think David and Solomon were some of the previous kings that were listed in the mer-peopl’s tablet. Either that or nic said it in his “speech” after he torched the tablet in Atheos.
David and Solomon were mentioned as previous kings from the merpeople’s tablet.
Fisrt off…everybody go vote on Top Web Comics, just click the link and we can make Dreamland #1 like it shoould be.
Second…Is Nic going to monologue? Doesn’t he realize that is the undoing of all the great villains? If you’re going to kill the hero, kill the hero. Don’t stand and gloat about it!
Not that I want Alex dead, but if you have the advantage, use it.
Keep up the great work Scott! I wish you could post 3 times a day, but 3 a week is OK, too.
I agree! It’s not that I want Alex, or anyone, to die… but standing in Nic’s shoes, I’d say get a move on! All this talking isn’t going to do much since I don’t think Alex cares that he was never the “chosen one”.. Up until this point, I don’t think he has explicitly said he wish to be King… he just accidentally (as far as he’s concern) found himself in the middle of a war… and he wanted to protect the place where he spent most of his childhood and be on the side of a bunch of very close childhood friends, one of which is now his girlfriend. None of this has to do w/ “chosen one” or “being king” or Dan…
butt(!) maybe Nic isn’t COMPLETELY evil..?? maybe he doesn’t want to kill Alex? Just demoralize them enough that they can all get out of this alive and go back to the “good old days” of Nic being King…?? =3
Evil or not, Nick better be careful, what with having everyone behind him while he gloats. What’s stopping Bognok from turning his axe into a tomahawk? Or Paddington throwing him at Nick to personally stab him in the back?
Honour, perhaps? Alex has already made it clear he feels this is ‘his fight’, though that doesn’t change the fact that they could intervene at any second if they think Alex is in mortal danger like you said. And now that he’s lost his grip on the sword (again) and his helmet has been forcibly removed, that’s a very real possibility.
Clearly, while the armour can protect Alex from the flames of Hade’s itself, Nic’s claws appear to be as sharp as the sword, which is an interesting coincidence. And looking at the third panel, I can’t help but think that everyone in the background is internally debating at that very moment whether they should intervene or not. Decisions, decisions!!! O_O
What if…. the sword was made of.. dragon claws…??? D=
the main issue in the past with the status of Dreamland Chronicles in the ranking is the lack of a consistent button for voting. The button is there now underneath the studios link and hopefully people will start casting their votes!
Ah, but does Nic consider himself a villain?
Haha i’m having serious Incredibles flashbacks-
He starts MONOLOGUING!!! he starts this like prepared speech about how feeeeeble i am compared to him, how ineeeeeeevitable my defeat is, how the world will soon be his! Yada, yada, yada… yammerin’! I mean this guy has me on a platter, and he won’t shut up!!!
OMG love that movie….
True – but apparently Nic hasn’t seen it… ;o)
Epic scene. It feels like something important is going to happen now. This is a good place to interrupt for commercials 😉
The first couple of panels are slightly confusing. When I looked at the first panel I thought a steel girder was flying toward Alex’s head. Then in the second panel the helmet is knocked off but no steel girder in sight. Was that a smokestack or something in the first panel? Did Nic backhand the helmet off Alex or was that an open-handed uppercut or what?
If you go back a page and look at the last panel, I believe that’s the broken obelisk in today’s first panel. It’s falling into the chasm — along with, after the second panel, Alex’s awesome helmet.
I think Nic might have twisted and popped off Alex’s helmet
With the back of his hand. Yeah, that makes sense. It logically wouldn’t take much force to knock some ones helmet off, especially seeing as no one thought to attach it to any thing. Granted the helmet comes from the armor, but who said the suit kept it attached once it was in place? Heres an example for you, helmets came off regularly during jousting tournaments. Usually with the jousters head, but thats beside the point. Even in modern times people have yet to learn how to attach a helmet to any sort of armor for an infantry unit with out the armor ending up more a hindrance than an aid like that.
the scratches on the helmet seem smaller…
is the helmet healing itself? that’d be awesome 😀
and dang, Alex is sooo lucky Nic didn’t take his head off in the 2nd panel!
No sword anymore, no helmet anymore. Now Alexander dies.
Nic’s mouth is a little glitchy in that last panel. his tongue should be partially visible, and there shouldn’t be half a purple block where it is.
Erm, I think that is his tongue. Might want to give it a second look…
Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, and I’m just blind. 😛
No you’re absolutely right about the tongue, but now that I’ve scrutinized it I can’t help but notice the yellow thing in his mouth, was it always like that!?! o_O
Where is a good sword when you need one?
Oh, that’s right, it’s in the stone.
in the stone.
Just in time for Dan to pop up, be all….. duuuuuude….. and slice nic’s head off ^-^
Alex: And who’s fault is that I wonder?
Alex: Dan can’t get here! I’m next in line! I just snogged Madam De Pompador! HA!
i thought it was because of nic that dan couldn’t enter into dream world and all of us knew it? (maybe im inserting my own crazed desires into the plot :P) but wouldn’t that make all of nics argument in this comic moot? Its not that Dan didn’t want to enter but its because Nic keeps him from entering. If Alex takes over dreamland as king maybe dan can enter again? Anyway i still want Nic to crush Alex’s face… its not like Alex has done anything useful so far other than get kicked around by nic so that no one else had to go through that trouble
Dan couldn’t enter Dreamland because Arthur was still technically alive. With Arthur’s recent deceasement (is that even a word?), Dan can theoretically enter Dreamland at any time. The question is how
Isn’t it about here that Alex says:
“My name….. is Neo.”
Now THAT would befuddle Nic for sure!
Nic’s assuming that Alex wants to be King. I don’t think Alex has such grandiose plans. He only want to protect Nastajia and his friend, including all of Dreamland. Just my two cents.
I believe You are closer to the truth than You may think…
I’m afraid that the force necessary to pop that helmet off Alex would have taken his head off with it.
You would be right, but it doesn’t take much to brush it off with the back of his hand. Gravity exists in Dreamland. Drop an apple a few feet and tell me it doesn’t move to best increase its downward velocity due to simple air resistance. Now imagine an apple with a cut in it that can hold a pair of googly eyes, and then put a few smaller cuts perpendicular to the googly eye cut. It will turn when dropped.
is that the sword breaking in the first panel? i thought the sword was unbreakable.
and why the hell are alex’s friends just standing there watching him get pounded? D:
Alex just told them “this is my fight”
They’re being respectful of that
Yeah but like Nastajia would sit back and watch Nick kill her man? If she’s push far enough, she’ll get involved or recruit Paddington or Bognok to do something for her.
I’m expecting Paddington to fling Bognok into the fight…
Thats a pillar. The one from last page? Yeah, its falling in to the merpeoples pool.
Would this be a bad time for Alex to wake up?
actually no. 1) he would have time to plan with dan. 2) doesn’t the sword always come back in Alex’s possession?
Nope. The sword stays wherever it was when Alex phases out.
In this instance, just before Alex woke up completely, Nicodemus dropped the sword while taking off (visible on the ground in the last panel)
When Alex went back to sleep, it was still on the ground where Nick dropped it.
c’mon Nastajia turn ol’ Nic into a dragon shaped pin cushion already
helmets gone……is his head next?? or worse?…..
u r right i think something bad is going to happen!!!!
Wait for it…
The avatar I got is oddly appropriate.
That last line from Nic is just a blatant invitation for Dan to appear from nowhere, draw the sword from the stone, say “OK, then I’ll take it from here!”, and defeat Nic. It’s unlikely to happen, but would be a good follow up to that line!
Dan can’t show up. The sword chose Alex, so he effectively IS the king of dreamland now, regardless of whether or not Dan was in line. So Dan is stuck for a couple of reasons: 1, he’s too old, and 2, he doesn’t have the sword (which I swear it was stated Alex needed to go back and forth).
Speaking of the sword, I do recall that Alex needs it to go between the worlds. So since he doesn’t have it, does that mean he’s stuck in dreamland? Or does he go back without it and lose it all?
He needs it in the Waking World to be able to go back and forth to dream land. We have already seen that he does not need it to return to the Waking World. See last fight with Nic.
Come on, Nic…. Shut up!
Jeez. Now he’s entered the official realm of evil villain monologues.
Ol’ Nic apparently thinks he’s divulging some secret that would shatter Alex’ confidence..Sadly for our evil Lagadishi, everybody already knows Dan was the first in line. It would be fun if the whole “Troupe”, including Bognok would go “DUH!!”
All plans of Mice and Men..
1. Great page Scott.
2. To any one doubting the fact that Nic can brush Alex’ helmet off, remember Physics? That thing that keeps you on the ground? Yeah, that applies in Dreamland still. Drop an apple and watch how it falls some time.
3. To all who say Nic twisted the helmet off, reread that last sentence and try it out some time, an orange works as well.
Aren’t the claw marks on Alex’s helmet too close to each other if Nic’s claws are that big?
Hey, it’s cool. You have a lot of work. I think it’s awesome that you’re taking your time to tell the story, however long it takes.
Nicodemus: “Your brother was Arthur’s successor.”
Alex: “And you got him banned from the Dreamland server!”
