Sorry for the late posting. Render for all those beasties in the water took FOREVER!
Hopefully tomorrow’s page won’t be so bad (finger’s crossed).
Wow! I think they have a wee bit of a problem there!
Fantastic page! And in the next scene: the sea serpents will start to tap dance and sing “I’m singing in the rain”!
As long as it’s not “Under the Sea”
OMG! Alex, how fast can you dig a hole with that thing? =)
the sword takes 2 condition damage though! he should switch to a shovel and then use a block of dirt from his inventory to fill the top. ^_^
Perhaps the advancing school of deepsea beasties are wanting a bit of seaserpent sushi and not merman a la King?
It’s the welcoming committee! They’re here to escort them before King Triton! Er… I mean… Ariel! Um… Maybe the Lady of the Lake?
Do I see a tongue lolling out on the beast that Alex killed?
The head of the killed beastie is facing away from the viewpoint. Pretty sure what you’re talking about is one of the many new ones that have shown up.
My mistake… With the one red eye, and the way that one dorsal fin was, I thought the top of the head was away from our point of view… Which made that purple thing, which I guess is the top of the head, look like a lolling tongue.
At least it’s not shrieking eels
“She doesn’t get eaten by the eels at this time.”
+5 to both of you.
Golden, and true I’m sure. Gotta love a movie quote that truly fits the scene to the letter. Love it.
……………….in the book it was man eating sharks in a moonless night that Vezzini stirred up by cutting arm and letting the blood pour into the water. Y’all gotta read the book. srsly
* his arm. And you wanna read the 30th Aniversary edition. It’s full title is: Princess Bride: The “Good Parts” Version. Author William Goldman.
I would if I could find it. The local library doesn’t have it and I haven’t been able to find it on any swedish book store local or online
Poor little beasties…
This would be a bad time for Alex to wake up.
Someone needs to cast Summon Bigger Fish.
lol Totally Agree….as Qui Gon Jinn would say theres always a bigger fish…but not always when you need them.
LOL….and Alex wakes up!! What’s a girl to do?!?!?!?!!!
When he comes back, will he be a merman? Can he breathe air or water? Will the serpentssssssssssssss be waiting still? Stay tune for the next episode of…….Dreamland Chronicles!
So maybe this isn’t the time for this, what with our heroes facing impending doom and all, but….this is a very pretty page.
Just two words: “Uh oh …”
Ah, Natasha. Mistress of the understatement, as always.
Also, Oh. Crap.
If anyone ever wonders why it takes Scott so long to render some of these pages, read this:
Also, Scott, there’s some things in here that might help you speed things up a tad, now that I think about it. I know that it’s Blender, not Maya, but some things will still apply.
Also, wonderful page and I can see exactly why those two frames can take a very long time.
Not good at all.
You know, I was just thinking about what happens when you get a little blood in the water…
…hsia coloured eyes! EVERYWHERE! *gulp* O_O
Epic save, A.C.
As long as Alex and Nastajia are down in the deeps, here’s a talk by someone who’s been down there and has some amazing pictures to show for it.
So, I’m just wondering- where’s that wall with the Lion’s head in relation to their position, again? Have the serpents cut them off? Cause, if not, now might be a good time for one of them to consider figuring out how that door opens….
dont know i think id prefer a pair of axese in that situation more to attack with
So in the next post tomorrow, one of the serpents will say, “Thank you! He was a mean, nasty fellow who was bullying all the rest of us. How can we ever repay you?”.
Unlikely, but a good idea for a fancomic.
I count seventeen sea monsters surrounding them. No problem. They’re all as good as dead. D-E-D. Dead.
You’ve been late a lot lately. Consider this your official verbal warning! Any more and we’ll have to go to a written reprimand….
“Yep, those odds look like just about even.”
Two words, and the first one is, “Oh, …”
This would be a good time for a mysterious stranger to appear saying “Come with me if you want to live.”
Pull a Picard! Try to reason with them!!
Okay, been out of the loop for a bit, but just now, I caught up to today’s page. Just reading that thing is an effort. I can’t imagine how nearly impossible writing it is. Well done!
So my comments will be more relevant to the comic in general than this once off post, but I gotta get it all out of my system:
-They stole a pirate ship? Yes, I get it, pirates are scum, they’ve probably done worse themselves on a daily basis and stealing their ship by force is only a once off thing. But still, really? No mercy? Not even a friendly lift home? You are the King’s personal associates, advisors and defendors, here to demonstrate to the world that Nic’s way of doing things is unacceptable under any circumstances, so start acting like it!
I find it so hard to take the ship scenes seriously, because I keep thinking to myself, “I have no idea who the original owner of that ship was, but it sure as anything is not you! GET OFF!!!” Also, I think it’s a bit of a harsh steriotype to assume that all residents of the nightmare realm who speak with a cornish accent and carry personal protection are free game for random acts of violence, intimidation and theft. Isn’t that racism?
-When describing this comic to friends, I say that it follows the following rules:
1. If you think it might happen, it probably will.
2. It will take twice as long to happen as you think.
3. When it happens, it will be twice as epic as you imagined.
4. On the off chance that it doesn’t happen, something even more epic will take it’s place. (Like the scene where Alex meets Felicity instead of Nicole. That moved me more than a REAL reunion would have.)
-What’s most amazing, is you really pull me in. I don’t know how you do it. I like to write fiction myself, and although there is something about a comic rather than written text, there is something more. I can’t put my finger on it, but there must be some rule of thumb, process or system you have in place to make sure your work grabs me tight and doesn’t let go. When a character is scared, I am scared. When a character laughs out loud, I am often laughing out loud with them. When a character hurts, I am hurt. When a character is in awe, I’m in awe. When a character is excited, I’m excited. How do you do that?
-Reading it all in one short stint is amazing. I can glance at each page for a few seconds and I really feel like I’m there with you. Reading it daily… well, I last gave up well over a year ago, but I’m gonna try it again.
As I’m sure you can imagine, it can sometimes be a bit of “What? You still haven’t managed to get to sleep? I have! Then I woke up and went to sleep, AGAIN!”
I know it’s easy to criticize, but I think what was missing was chatting in the comments section. I’m gonna try reading comments and adding to them daily.
-The adverts on your page, if I click one I’m not interested in, I rip your sponsers off, but if I click none at all, I rip you off. Is there some way I can have a larger list of adverts to scroll through, and still give you your propper tribute for leading me to it? I want to be able to hold my head high and say, “I supported the people who supported dreamland, and I’ve got a super-cool-thingy-whats-it in the mail to me as we speak!”
-Finally, this last comment is not directed at Scott, but the group in general. If you have read my entire rant from start to finish, post me a reply. Get used to me. I hope to become friends with you all and be one big movie quoting happy family.
Just finished your wall of text and actually enjoyed most of it. I, too, was a little upset about how the pirates were treated, but it occurs to me that from a little boy or girl’s POV, this was their kind of funny. This IS Dreamland, after all. You just have to believe that..
1. they deserved it and..
2. they survived the long fall to the ground and..
3. they had a long walk back home grumbling all the way.
Still, even for children, we’re saying “theft is okay providing that the person you steal from is naughty.” There is a difference between written for children and written by children.
For the pirate ship thing, I look at that the same way I see the orcs in Lord of the Rings. There really is no good reason why they should be considered inherently evil and ok to kill, but accepting that simplification to black/white morality is just part of the suspension of disbelief for me.
This truly is a well told story. I’m not sure what it is that develops such connections with the characters, but I’ve not felt like I was this ‘in’ a story since I read Dune back in high school. It may be because we’re so involved with their struggles, feelings and emotions, that it’s hard not to connect with them on a human level.
Agreed about reading through it quickly. I’ve probably read through the series at least twice since my initial reading in December 2011 (taking longer on the comments, as you can see). I’m really looking forward to getting the books, though educational/living commitments will have priority for at least another year and a half or two.
That’s more thought than I put into the adverts. I figure that if Google said they’d pay Scott for clicks, they had to be aware that sites like this have fans who will click on them for that reason rather than what’s being advertized. I guess in a way, you’re still supporting the sponsors by showing (albeit fake) interest in their product, and increased traffic on their site.
I read your post, and now demand a cookie for it.
That’s a line fit for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
