But seriously, my guess is that it’s Daniel’s mother. Daniel is out real late on a date and they’re in front of the house talking. And my impression was that Daniel hasn’t dated much, if at all. (I seem to recall a “My Daniel is growing up!” or some such squee from his mom.) So, yeah, it’s late and his mom might be tempted to see what’s holding him.
If I’m right, though, I wonder how she’d take all this talk about Mermaids, Elves, and Dreamland?
That is what I was worrying about as well. Plus he is walking around with a giant sword so anyone that sees them will be highly suspicious or terrified.
I don’t think the wraiths have corporeal mass in the waking world. They can interact with it by directly focusing on the item they wish to, but would otherwise just flow through obstructions and not have the weight to break a twig by stepping on it.
oh snap, stuff just got real. Of course if Dan is going to be king of the world then stuff would kind of have to get real and with only this chapter left it is going to have to escalate quickly.
I’m guessing it’s Daniel and Alex’s… was it their cousin? I can’t find the page the kid was in, but they saved him from the pirates way back in a chapter long ago.
If they’re worried about an eavesdropper, they just need to improvise some line about hoping they level up next session because they want to pick this or that skill. Then they can talk about magic portals and elves as much as they want.
The wraiths attacked Merlin and the centaur helping Arthur in Dreamland at the same time. Merlin defeated the wraiths but the Centaur was slain thus trapping Arthur in between worlds.
The only time they were able to arrive here physically, they immediately started a war. They needed a portal for that, though, and after the portal was destroyed, the war stopped. Why would it if they could still kill in their, erm, wake bodies? More grief, more nightmares, more fun for their dark lord.
Hm… Potential, silly ways to explain carrying a HUGE, unsheathed sword around at night while talking about going someplace after hours and other gibberish to a police officer or general onlooker #1:
School project on the reflective properties of metal at night? XD
It is possible they both had a revelation about the portal or most likely her mother just walked up to him holding a sword with her daughter. great story Scott

But um… how did Dan hear about the portal? I assume he means the Egyptian portal that was broken up? Alex hasn’t woke up since hearing about it, and Nivienne did not mention it… Or are we talking about the pool of Auryrn? The pool is not exactly a portal is it? It requires extensive magical training…

AFAIR, Wraiths aren’t quite material in Wakeland. They can spy all right, but have never caused anybody any physical harm.
