I’m not worried about who will be king, though. I’m sure they’ll find a way for both brothers and Nicole to get there; Dan and Alex should share the responsibilities, they both have different strengths.
He CAN control when he wakes, etc. Orion helped him learn to do that. See book three, when Orion teaches Alex about controlling his “Dream-self.”

I can’t tell if those creatures have arrived to take Alex away, or if those are the ones they knocked out a little earlier.

Seriously though I hope he has woken up. Would be pretty embarrassing if at THAT moment in the middle of THAT conversation he had tripped over himself and was lying flat as a newly fried pancake on the floor. >_<
Either the alarm clock has really bad timing or those winged demons ambushed him. Surely Alex wouldn’t be that much of a jerk to up and leave cause Nastajia is talking serious stuff, right? Right? Alex, please don’t let me down.
That’s odd. Normally it takes Alex several seconds to fade out of Dreamland when he wakes up, and he knows it’s coming. Either he did it really fast this time and didn’t warn Nas he was going, or something else happened. He MIGHT have taken her words to heart and flown off to scout out the building on his own. Or something might have occurred on Earth to wake him up suddenly. We’ll have to wait and see.
Is it possible that someone’s trying to wake him? Would that wake him up really fast?
That time he was wired into the monitors in the sleep center and Nicole panicked because it looked like his brain had stopped working, he was snapped out of Dreamland immediately when she and the other researchers burst into the sleep room to see if he was still alive. Something similar might be happening now on Earth…
On the other hand, when he and Felicity were falling from the tower, he woke up really fast on his own. It is hard to tell what’s going on.
you know, back when I was married, I had conversations like that. And I remember trying desperately to stay awake because there was no hell, no fury like a woman left alone in a room where everybody else was sleeping.
I’m leaning more towards the likeness that he’s been tackled by a new squadron of nightmare beasts.
