I’m in Los Angeles this week working on the film.
I worked last weekend to put up a couple of pages this week.
I will be back in the morning.
Hopefully I’ll get a Friday page up.
Thanks for your patience.
…and Nicodemus blows his keep your cool roll…BADLY.
If Abbadon kills Nick in this scene, I would call it sweet sweet justice for Alex. *starts munching on popcorn*
Good luck with the movie, Scott. We waited months for this, we’ll survive more delays.
I know I really shouldn’t, but I do feel sort of sorry for dear old Nic. Even though he’s slated to be the bad guy, I do like the character.
He’s only the bad guy because he was played by the real bad guy(s)…Abaddon. Nic has only ever wanted what’s best for Dreamland. His mistrust of humans came from being lied to about Ramses (he was told that Ramses was leading armies into Dreamland to conquer it when it was the Nightmare Realm who invaded Earth initially)…which led to seriously having issues with Arthur’s desire to bring more adult humans into contact with Dreamland (apparently thinking “here’s another power-hungry king who doesn’t care about this realm and wants to take it over”). He’s been very misinformed and has gotten more crochety with time (“You piddly humans get off my lawn!”), but he’s not truly evil.
It’s perfectly natural to feel sorry for him IMO.
i love Nic, he’s my favorite kind of bad guy, the one i can have some sympathy for.
As much as i really like straight up evil as the antagonist, the kind you don’t have to question and can just love to hate, they tend to be pretty shallow and eventually boring.
I also prefer redemption over commuppence, which can really only come from a character we WANT to see redeemed (after they work their butts off for it). so i hope Nic is headed in that direction.
I also love Nic As the others have pointed out, he’s the best kind of “bad guy” you could get — he’s not downright evil and easy to hate, so you can actually sympathize with him and that in my opinion makes for a believable, real character. So I hope he lives in the end (all characters I tend to like in stories are the ones that end up dying >.>).
I think it’s the fact that there’s an honest chance for redemption with Nic that makes him such a sympathetic villain. We KNOW he’s “evil” because he was deceived, and that colored his perceptions for all time. So there’s hope that, if he realizes the truth behind that deception, he can become a force for good once again, and help the King of Dreamland and his Human Champion (which I can see Alex becoming, since he’s no longer bound to become the Dream King, and we KNOW he’ll find a way back to Dreamland, or Dan will find a way to bring him back!) maintain peace in the realm, and perhaps even fulfill Arthur’s dream… in a MANAGEABLE manner!
Yes, that would be the best outcome for Nic, I agree
Dan seems insufficiently perturbed by this situation. If Abbadon offs Nic, he’s more or less smack in the middle of the Nightmare Realm with no allies. I’d get on with stopping with that ASAP.
Yeah…I’m kind of bothered by Dan’s lack of reaction, too.
Not sure if I would say I’m “bothered”, especially considering Dan has only been in Dreamland for 5-10 minutes. I’d expect him to be somewhat confused, but I do think he is a bit too nonchalant for the situation.
I think that things are just happening too fast for him to get a full grasp on the situation that fast. Smart or not, this whole situation takes a moment to get used to. However, he handled himself pretty well in the previous pages, so I don’t know if things are just happening to fast right now so that he doesn’t have time to over think things. He tends to be the more hesitant of the two siblings, after all.
Oh no, you´re all misjudging it!
This is an awesome reaction to the long due Karma getting dished out to the creature that has (scuse me french) effed up his life and his brother´s happiness.
Only a simpleton treats his enemies enemy actually like a friend.
This is impressing me more than any of the bumbling his brother did throughout the comic.
Waait … did Dan did it deliberately?
Wait…what? Nic is mortally wounded? So he’s going to die from his wound, and soon, regardless of what happens? Or is just making a play to get the new King of Dreamland to help him?
I was curious about that phrasing too. Mortally wounded indicates the wound is overall non-recoverable from, death is imminent. It does appear to be oozing at least. It could be a ploy…
I predict that Dan will fight with Nick. Not sure why, but I feel it coming.
Well , all Dan have to do is to sit … relax … and watch the dragon being killed like he would watch tv.
Relax, in the Nightmare realm? The one trying to takeover his Kingdom?
The beasts are Very likely to turn on him as soon as they’re done with Nick.
If this whole thing was staged for Nick’s benefit, would that make Dan look bad as king of Dreamland?
From the look on Dan’s face, his next line will be, ‘We are not amused.’
Neither, apparently, is TopWebComics. We’re stuck at #28. Please vote, fellow Readers!
He’s mortally wounded? Like, about to die?
(going to assume you meant “gravely”)
Also, Nic should be smart enough not to tell the guys attacking him how wounded he is.. shouldn’t he?
Wait… mortally wounded? That means Nick won’t be around much longer… unless this turns out to be a dream and not Dreamland….
this page is…i think unintentionally funny?
First, Dan is just “huh. Welp that’s different.”
and Nic is pretty lively for being “mortally wounded”–someone as proud as he probably wouldn’t even admit he’d been hurt that badly.
this smells more like “OH help! HELP me my KING! For I hath been terribly wounded, MORTALLY even!”
Why do I hear that in Snagglepuss’ voice?
haha, that was the voice i was trying to imitate but i couldn’t remember the character’s name, thanks!
Heavens to Mergatroyd!
I love how Dan’s just standing there going “…yep. This is a thing. I am currently watching a bunch of gargoyle bats attacking a dragon.”
Might not be what scott was going for, but his “I don’t even know how to react to this nonsense” look is hilarious to me.
I would prefer Nicodemus to stay alive. He is a bady but, as Julie said, not the real mean bady. Hope Dan will help.
But I love his face. I mean, how many of us would see this and go ‘ooukay… what am I to do now?’ But I am worried, if Nick dies, we have one less bad guy… But Dan will not only be in the Nightmare Realm but alone with Abadon… And I don’t think that’s a good idea.
I wonder if Nic will turn out to be like a Timex watch… It takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’.
I have always wondered how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Timex watch.
The world may never know…
Actually, now would be a good time for Dan to start putting on that armor…
Even if it’s badly damaged and reeks of it’s former occupant!
Ewww!! Brother sweat!
Ahh – but it’s magical, adjusting its size to the wearer and always keeping them comfortable.
yeah, but is it self cleaning?
I think that might actually be part of the spell, yes. It’s open-ended enough that that is a possibility. From Chapter 4…
I figured I’d check the comments, to see if I was the only one thinking, “Now is the time either to kill Nicodemus, or extort an oath from him in exchange for help.” As I expected, you’re nicer people than I am.
Nope, we’re all just wondering if he’ll remove the word “mortally” or not
How long is Dan going to stand there like an idiot???
