I would respectfully disagree. if Dan interprets Alex as a hippo, then Alex is a hippo in Dan’s *perception* of reality. It’s true that, subjectively, our individual perception is (for all practical purposes) the same as our individual Reality, but the concept of Reality is laden with connotations of objectivity.

The tricky bit comes in proving what *is* Reality. If nine out of ten people agree, after careful examination, consideration and debate, that a particular four-legged furry creature that barks and wags its tail is a dog, then they can (and usually do) ignore the tenth person who says it’s a duck. Does this indicate that this is a dog in Reality, or is this mass subjective perception that has been accepted by consensus as “reality”?

Enough out of me, I’ve got to go; my dog is quacking to go out.

No. If DAN interprets Alex as a hippo, it makes Alexa a hippo from DAN’S perspective. It has no bearing on our perception if we don’t want it to.

However, dreaming is one of those altered, subjective states of consciousness. Think about how Alex forgot how to fly, and Kiwi’s explanation of how it’s done. He has to believe he can – that’s a subjective reality that depends upon the dreamer’s state of mind. It’s a limited form of magic-use, which when you get down to brass tacks is a method of altering reality to suit your perception of it.
