I notice it for a page or two. After that, it fades into the story unless a bunch of readers keep bringing it up.

Xspace, normally only put the emphasis on one word in their sentence if they do at all. In this comic there can be two, even up to four things in bold. It’s annoying for me, at least. It’s like when somebody send you a MeSsAgE tYpEd LiKe ThIs.
It messes up the character’s voices for me.

What’s with this “problem” with bold emphasis? I don’t get what the big deal is.
Personally, I’m grateful for the emphasis as it helps me voice the characters’ words in my head when I read it. This way it sounds more realistic to me and I get a clear picture of the emotion and speech patterns.

Then again, when I write I often have a tendency to over-use bold text for emphasis, so I’m probably rather biased.

To an extent, yes. But you get emphasis, and then you get pushing it way over the limit of grammatically acceptable.

Agreed. Love the imagery, the 3d work, etc and the story is getting interesting. But the overuse of bolding is getting rather annoying...

The emphasis follows the speech pattern of the individual character involved. It’s how the author hears the voices and he’s trying to convey that to the reader.

Even Sonic the Hedgehog had more than I could handle, but lately it’s gotten better, especially with the new series, Sonic Universe.

You guys obviously haven’t read enough comic books; they ALL have random emphasis. It is very annoying but after 15-26 of reading comic books, I’ve gotten used to it =P Although Dreamland is really pushing it…
