Don’t you just love Dwarves?
Dwarves… their brute force, and loyalty sure do seem to make up for their lust for treasures of the mines. Never want to be on the wrong side of their battles.
Oops, got an it’s where an its should be! Keep up the (otherwise) great work!
I do love dwarves! This chapter is great so far. I still don’t get why Bognok is so much bigger than the rest though. He’s hardly a dwarf at all!
He’s like 2 feet taller than alex
No I believe the “it’s” is correct. It would be just like saying Dreamland’s rightful owner. Where in the sentence Dreamland is replaced with the word it. The owner belongs to it, ” ‘s ” is a show of possession. Been awhile since I’ve been in school ,but I believe it to be correct.
Sorry if I’m wrong, like I said it has been awhile.
This Chapter has been exquisite!!
it’s = it is
its = possessive
I have learned so much grammar from you people…
*grabs his helm and battle-axe, joins the charge*
So is he recognising Alex as the rightful King?
Heheh, Hobnob continues to impress, can’t keep that man down, no sir…
Also, I wonder what’s going through Alex’s mind right now, probably feels awkward having someone willing to risk their life over something you’ve barely even acknowledged. Could it be Alex is going to start taking this thing seriously or not…!?!?
To the next page, my dwarven brethren! O_O
Did anyone in this story say a word about Alex becoming the next king? I don’t remember… could be a shock for Alex right now. And I’m not sure all those dwarves will follow this sudden change of mind. What about this:
Bognok: “For Hilmdel!” (runs forward)
Dwarves: (stand still, not satisfied with the short explanation)
Bognok: (stops because he doesn’t hear anything from behind, then turns around) “What’s about you? Why don’t you follow me?”
Dwarves: “Care to explain a little more before we fight a dragon?”
I hope these dwarves have a +4 against dragons or something…
Like Dwarfs? In a word. No.
Well, technically dwarves don’t have to be small, it’s the proportions that matter, ie the length of the trunk compared to the arms and legs… so Bognok’s a giant dwarf…
It’s clear what happens next: the dwarves defeat Nicodemus and peace is restored to all of Dreamland.
Yyyep. Nothing bad is about to happen at all.
‘for hilmdel!’ ‘to helmsdeep!’
looks a little to much alike eachother in my opinion :p
lol, charge!!! Dragon swipes paw and takes out 40 dwarves, kiwi makes alex invisible and alex stabs Nicodimus from behind, haha! Wait ya, were is kiwi in all this?
Anyone else notice that Alex hasn’t woken up in a while? he usually has a really bad habit of waking up when things get interesting. Im starting to wonder if it just cause of the time distortion between the two worlds or maybe he starting to be come more connected to dreamland.
Anyway, go dwarfs!
Doesn’t anyone else see a problem with a human being the king of Dreamland? Specifically that said human would most likely have to be in a coma or dead to live in Dreamland permanently.
Nope, I see Alex getting drawn into it or Nick giving Alex a bit of repartee and in either chase, Nick runs/flys away from this swarm.
GET YA SOME!!! RAAASSSK!!!!
Well, it’s not just Alex who has a dilemma. Can the Queen of Elves just stand by while the King of Dwarves leads his subjects into battle against Nicodemus? And is this the right time/place to take on Nicodemus?
If it were as simple as just having all of the dwarves attack, you’d think Nic would have been overthrown long before this. I expect… complications.
Wrong an elf, you’ve got a long-lived enemy.
Wrong a dwarf, and you’ve got his clan’s eternal enmity.
FOR WOMBATS! Hee hee… really loving the chapter so far, Scott!
I’d like to point out two small grammar mistakes. When King Dwarf says Nick’s “a usurper”, it should be “an usurper”.
Other than that, it’s a little strange that dwarves would accept so easily the fact that a human must rule Dreamland when they don’t know much about them, except for children although they don’t hang around them either. I can understand the blind faith in their leader when they are ordered to attack an usurper, though.
That’s not true; whether to use “a” or “an” depends on the SOUND. “Usurper” begins with the consonant sound “y”, so it’s “a usurper”.
um I’m sure it’s not pronounsed “yusurper”…
Waaa-Hoo! We gonna have a rip-snortin’ fight! Git that dragon! oh, ‘ahem’, sort of forgot myself there… Great Chapter, Scott!
charge! green dwarf does 2d6+4 impact hits 😛
hmmm… I think I’ve figured out what the ‘catch’ at the end of the story is going to be, but I’m not going to say here because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. Lets just say I think people are jumping to premature conclusions about Alex’s roll in all of this.
No, we know exactly what’s going to happen =)
Yeah, go dwarves, go kick some dragon-butt!
Nick actually had a great opportunity he missed. If he had quickly and quietly killed the King Dwarf he could have kept the Dwarves as an ally by blaming his death on the Elf and her companions.
It wouldn’t have taken much to get them to go there and with the Dwarvish tablet destroyed, there is no other evidence.
I’m pleased the Dwarvish Kings can take Nick’s punishment long enough to get the word out to his subjects.
FOR GONDOR! FOR GONDOR! FOR GONDOR!
… for Pony, too! 😀
It’s not quite clear in the last panel whether the dwarves ARE following Bognok, so I sure hope it’s not going to be one of those sequences in which the one guy charges forward and realizes that the others aren’t following, too confused by the situation to be sure of what to do.
I wouldn’t be surprised (assuming they ARE following) to see Nicodemus perform a Strategic Withdrawal.
Nicodemus would have a problem strategically withdrawing, seeing as he’s surrounded by a horde of angry dwarves. There is little to no chance of escape. I’d say ‘poor Nicodemus!’ but the scaly jerk deserves it.
Ooooh…dragons and dwarves and axes, oh my!
And I’m pretty sure the grammar is correct. As in the ruler belonging to Dreamland.
Wow :p saw the last three pages in a row, and it just gave me goosebumps 😀 well done!
“”I’d like to point out two small grammar mistakes. When King Dwarf says Nick’s “a usurperâ€, it should be “an usurper “”
it really depends an how “usurper” is pronounced, you are correct if you pronounce it “OO-surper” but i’ve also heard it pronounced “YOU-surper” in which case the comic is correct.
If you have “it’s” in a sentence, when you replace it with “it is”, if the sentence you get doesn’t make sense anymore (like in this comic as of this post), then it’s a mistake and you should have used “its”.
Grammar is easier for us computer programmers 😉
This is a perfectly valid sentence, could be the answer to the question “Whose monitor is this ?”
For exampe “The book belongs to this guy. Whose book is this ? It’s his.” “The monitor belongs to this computer. Whose monitor is this ? It’s its.”
Oh yeah us computer programmers are usually geeks too 😛
Dwarves are always cool – as strong, stubborn and unrelenting as the stone they live in. Love ’em
yaap. revolution time
Oh lordy, think something finally occured to Alex in Boggy’s little speech? For Hilmdel and glory! Hope this isn’t the charge of the light brigade dwarf style.
For Hilmdel! And good ale!!!
*Charges forward, axe raised*
Oh… And what’s this about a human king?
Haha, I remember last page someone mentioned this “rally to your king” thing and made a joke about not knowing if he meant human or dragon… in the end, it was “TO ME~!!” lol XD
i agree with Haviland, that explanation was a bit short to agree to fight a dragon, king of dreamland… but i guess it depends on how much the dwarfs trust their leader… i think dwarfs are usually quite good with relationship w/in their own clan, in which case just for loyalty + trust sake they may go for it =)
Two things. “It’s” is a contraction of it is. Its is the possessive form of it. If something belongs to “it” than that something is “its” something.
Second thing. Maybe Alex isn’t really destined to be the king of Dreamland. While he has gone there and David hasn’t, David has never dreamed at all. Maybe Nick created a spell that prevents humans with the same names as a previous king from entering Dreamland. Maybe David is the rightful king of Dreamland! Also, wouldn’t it just be funny if Nicole turned out to be the young girl that Felicity was friends with as a child?
FOR THE BEARD!!!
So many chills
THIS IS SOO EPIC AND SAD!!!! T.T *tear* I love you dwarf king!!!! *hugs*
The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deeps! One. Last. Time!
Only it’s the roar of Bognok. And this is the perfect setup for a dramatic last stand.
I know this is being posted long after this sequence was made, but I don’t understand why Scott couldn’t at least do some quick recolors of some of his repeating dwarves to give at least a semblance of more variety. It’s a cheap trick a lot of RPG games use to “increase” the different monsters in the game, and I don’t see why it couldn’t work here. Of course, I am not familiar with the software he’s using, and maybe a recolor (of hair/beards, I’m thinking here) is actually far more complicated than I’m thinking.
For Hilmdel!!! For Dreamland!!! For SPARTA!!!!
Wynnefredd said, “Oh lordy, think something finally occured to Alex in Boggy’s little speech? For Hilmdel and glory! Hope this isn’t the charge of the light brigade dwarf style.”
Errr, if it’s dwarves charging, wouldn’t that be a heavy brigade, by default? Dwarves are not generally known for their lightness…
heh. they hav NO idea wats going on. they just hit things.
Bognok: “Make this look good, men! This is FOR THE TRAILER!!!”
Loyalty is way simpler than these people like to make it.
Hell yeah! Epic dwarf charge 😀
Don’t forget the horde of nightmare beasties outside the mountain, trying to get in. This would be a very opportune moment for them to do so, and turn this into an all-out brawl… (I hope that’s not a spoiler, much as I’d like to see it – I haven’t read any farther than this yet.)
FOR HILMDEL!!! FOR THE HORDE!!!!
These are the most noble and loyal (Angry) dwarves I have ever seen. Makes me wish this is how politics should work.
neat page layout- I like the overlap
