The Dreamland Chronicles Page 01…
Hi all!
Happy Tuesday!
I’ve added a couple of links to the site.
The one on the right is for our PATREON page which is paying Tracy to do the pages currently.
I would LOVE to get her to 5 days a week. So if you could all chip in… I know we can make that happen.
Also… if you know of any places where new readers might find us… please let them know.
In the meantime… may as well vote for us here…right?
Is the old 3D version still available somewhere?
The old comic is hidden. But still up on the site for me to see.
I do have the comic for Kindle here…
https://amzn.to/2HzjcE2
And you can usually find the printed books here and there.
Um… what the heck? Why would you hide the comic? Is this a server-hosting-cost thing, or an “I’m ashamed of my old art” thing (which: this comic was awesome), or some third reason that I can’t even guess at?
How can I direct people to read an awesome webcomic if the webcomic isn’t even hosted anymore? I don’t think I even got to finish the comic; I’m a binge reader, for all but a small handful, so I’ll let a comic sit for months or a couple of years without getting back to it, so I can read a whole bunch at a go. Seeing it gone feels like a hole in my heart 🙁
Hey Kyle…
I didn’t hide it to hurt anyone. I’m not ashamed of the art. I’m proud of it.
But I want to see the story complete with Tracy’s art and after 2 years of the comic being finished. Sitting here. I thought I would bring it back.
I’m sorry you didn’t have a chance to finish reading it.
Contact me through this site and I’ll send you the PDFs of the entire series for free.
I think I found the right place for the PDFs (from another comment), so phew! not gone, yay. I’m downloading them now and look forward to figuring out where I’d stopped and reading the final portion (I vaguely recall the fantasy world just starting to bleed out to the real world? not sure which part that’d be in).
I think I’ll enjoy seeing the new art style, but there’s something so charmingly unique about the 3d version. How often do you get to see a 3d comic that’s actually done competently and isn’t… well, “not for kids”? I don’t think I’ve ever seen another online comic that I could even compare it to. The sweeping epic story and great characters will obviously come through just fine in regular comic art, and the art should be fairly simple to pull off (comparatively) if the new artist is just following the original panels and such, but there’s still a quality that gets lost in the change, like how even a competent live-action superhero movie can’t fully replace the original comics.
Part of my panic was that when I made that comment, it appeared that the only content left on this site was that first page, which seemed to only direct to itself, and I couldn’t find any Next/Previous buttons, so it felt like you’d just dropped the whole thing. Which reminded me of a YouTuber whose material I liked, but who got so annoyed by not getting subscribers fast enough that he took the time to nuke his entire body of work (and then, when I emailed him to ask what happened, went off on me for “not being a true fan” because my binge style hadn’t noticed his absence for months). That’s the only time, previous to this, that I found a site still up but the content completely gone like this, so I didn’t know what to think.
But yes, thank you for letting me know. I really appreciate that you made this wonderful series, that you brought it to conclusion, and that you haven’t abandoned it. And as a fellow writer and artist, I can appreciate the desire to take your old work (when you were just getting your legs under you) and redo it to your current standards, even if that means a change in format. But I’m relieved that the old versions still exist (not least because I won’t have to wait forever to read the part I haven’t read yet).
P.S. I still wonder what is up with people reading “Kilyle” and getting “Kyle” out of it. Not the only one of my monikers that gets mangled like that (including my real name, Alethia, which has led to people calling me “Athena” because clearly there’s only one A—-a name in the world that has a “th” in it), but it still kinda baffles me. Maybe on a small phone screen? Ah well.
OH. my apologies Kilyle! I need to take a moment more before replying.
Ack.
kinda still wish comic could have been completed in original 3d style … it was awesome and truly unique back then and would be even now
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it.
I poured my heart and soul into the comic. I did over 2,000 pages. So I don’t feel like I quit. It’s just that the technology improved so much over the 14 years and I couldn’t afford to keep up.
Also. I’m really enjoying Tracy’s work. It lends so much life to the story. So much more than I could have done in 3D.
Oh, the old art’s not available online anymore? I was hoping to point other artists here, to show them that using 3D modeling is not “cheating,” but perfectly valid and has been done to wide acclaim.
I wanted to show the transition, and be able to say that, far from being disdained, this artist’s labor of love was SO beloved that, long after the software was no longer viable, an artist stepped forward… oh well.
You’ve a right to order your things the way that works best for you, but nonetheless I implore you to reconsider letting the old art remain visible, for the benefit of the artists who come after you, to see that you did NOT allow prevailing customs and obstacles to stop you. Maybe not even the whole thing if you don’t want to, but a bit? A story, for some future high-school kid with too many “you can’t do it like that”s from others, to let them know…. I dunno, hope or something.
The original pages (with the original comments) are gone, but you can still download the pdf versions of the original comics here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/d9bt6wxzoeyr6o5/AABFR0uTtaROwOOYxDZWYWsna?dl=0
The original comments, alas, are gone forever. (Unless they’re preserved in some wayback thing somewhere … )
Thank you!
I wonder if anyone will do The Princess Bride edits this time around.
I sure hope so…
Thank you for this. test
