If it had been steel on steel Alex’s sword would have been deflected toward the pirate’s right and would have place the point inside for a jab. The face and center of gravity are already left of the swing. With the saber broken the main danger would be to the pirates right arm. Also Alex could redirect the momentum toward the leg if he had any control of the blade.
