That TOTALLY rocks! Full body tackle on a dragon FTW! Was thinking though… Shouldn’t Nic say something like “OOF!” when getting hit hard enough to send him through a wall? Other than that, great action sequence, Scott!
It can be pretty difficult to maintain a position in the air, even if you know some thing is coming. Hence why it took so long for humans to discover how to make a helicopter so that it can hover, or move with few problems. I like to imagine Nic was purposefully trying to hover over that group of people to appear more menacing to them, and then here comes Ales with a hard right hook from no where. He thought Alex was buried or at least burning. Now he knows that doesn’t work so well.
I hope Alex has hero insurance to cover the collateral damage.

Though it breaks one of the cardinal rule of comics, this is one of the rare moments where seeing the moment of impact would have REALLY rocked it, I think. It feels like it all happened way too quickly.

Sorry to say but the transition between the two panels is kind of jarring. I don’t get the impression that Alex is traveling at the right speed to headbutt Nick so hard to send him flying like that.

im thinking nik was caught off guard, and was shocked to hear and see alex and so plunged into the side of the building unaware. i could be wrong, anyway itd be cool if that is what happened. alex punching nic.
No, it’s obvious that Nick landed from his wing position in the second panel. They’re folded as if not in use.
Ever seen a humming bird hover? They are natures helicopters, and they can probably fly in a way similar to a dragon. The thing is, they don’t land when they are eating the honey from flowers, they hover in place while beating their wings almost as fast as a Basilisk running on water. So it wouldn’t be to hard to imagine a dragon doing some thing similar when it wanted to look imposing compared to every thing else.
And before anyone complains that this only works for very small birds: I have, personally, seen a fairly large osprey (a type of hawk that eats fish) hover for nearly a full minute using exactly the same wing movements that a hummingbird uses, albeit with longer, slower wing strokes.

I think so, just because it would be freaking cool to see. I get what happened, but the tackle would be great.
maybe a more surprised look on Nic’s face would suffice, along with a “WHAAAT?!”
Or, along a similar vein, the panel with Alex saying ‘that’s enough’ should have Nic looking away but his eyes visibly narrowing, as if to say ‘what the hell’, and then he should be turning (as in the middle panel) just moments before impact, that way the last panel says everything else you need to know.
I have to admit I imagined Alex had hit him one at first (as it was funnier and my imagination is skewed) but still, this bodes well for the ensuing battle. ^_^
If he punched Nick – nope, although the moment of impact would be really cool!
If he tackled Nick – I’d say it’s not necessary but would help. I thought he had punched Nick, so a tackling shot would clear up any possible misinterpretations?
perhaps a flashback in a future panel when Alex is bragging so we can see the details (but are they the real details or the details through Alex’s eyes (gotta love little potential plot twists like that)).
It definitely seems like one or two panels are missing. I could not figure out if he was tackled, hit, or you went insane and now necessary panels are optional.
My first thought when I saw panel three was actuelly:
“Why does Nic go and hide inside a building?”
And yes, why indeed would he do such a thing?

Seeing Alex flying had him pretty shocked, I can imagine Alex flying headlong into Nic, and with the aid of the even-armour propelled him towards a big wall with no uncertain momentum…

Yes, please. I can’t from the pics whether Alex did a Superman punch on him or hit him human torpedo style. My hunch is the second. I think that would be Alex’s style. I remember that slice he took at him up on the cliff.
By the way, great action! Knocking the dragon through a brick wall has got make a tale-worthy impression on the townspeople, too. ^.^
Then again, I think I see the bottom of Alex’s boot there in the midst of Nic’s feet, so it looks like a head-first torpedo slam for sure. Way to go, Alex!

I think it would be good to see what happened. I’m assuming Alex body slammed him and they both went crashing into the roof?
You might want to put Alex’s helmet on, too. Otherwise, that tackle, or body block, or whatever it was will probably leave him seriously concussed …

Yup! You’ve retrofitted the comic before, it’s one of the benefits of having the art online. The hard thing is stopping after you’ve gotten to a good point. Every artist is their own worst critic. A good portion of webcomic authors have redone their first and sometimes second year artwork, after growing in talent. I don’t think this sequence is bad, I think it will be more powerful with showing, at least, the start to the hit. Showing the impact may be too limiting. Perhaps a panel of Alex Powering up, diving, or surging… and then Nickie’s utter shock.
Perhaps Nic has time to get out part of a word before the hit: “Inconceiv…!” *OOF*
I think you need to show the collision – if nothing else to show that the helmet re-appeared in time to save Alex’s head from being crammed back inside his armor by the impact.

Normally I`m pretty good at this, but I used to watch Aladdin in Dutch when I was a kid, I`ve only seen it 2 or 3 times in English yet. 
The 3rd panel is actually a little confusing. So, is that just Nics feet sticking out of the wall then? And if his whole body just punched through that building, wouldn’t it have left a much bigger hole?
@Shawn: The head, being small and dense, naturally punched just a small hole in the wall. The wings folded as they followed through… Just out of interest, are you one of those conspiracy theorists who says the palace wasn’t hit by a dragon? If so, what is it that you reckon made the hole?
Nah, for now the feet gave it away…no conspiracy needed orrrr..is it a cruise-rock with fake dragon-feet attached, due to the dwarves already plotting an overthrow of Alex..ehhh….oh dear..gotta learn to leave those conspiracy-sites alone
When was the last time you saw a large object punch a whole in a cinder block/brick wall and only leave a hole the size of the object?
And, Nick isn’t exactly small, even folded up.

Looks great! There is only one thing that bugs me about today’s comic… I get the whole tackle thing… And the flying thing… And the magic… And so on and so on…
However, When did Alex get Super Sayjan power tackle abilities.. or just straight up Anime powerhouse moves for that matter? Isn’t Nic at least twice Alex’s size?
In Panel Two Alex has no real indication of speed behind him, yet in Panel Three Nic obviously is going faster than Alex was on his own… It’s the whole “I think he sneezed on him” thing…

I agree with Jurgen. The elven armor definitely provided higher resistance to crashing through the wall.
Also Orion’s training helped Alex release his ‘powers’ to their full potential. So I’m sure he was flying pretty fast.
Hmm… in my opinion, some indication of speed in the second panel would be nice.. I thought he was just flying fast, but I didn’t think it felt fast enough to… tackle Nic like that. Also, would more of the lower portion of the wall be crumbled away too, since he’s such a big, beefy dragon? Unless Alex was flying fast enough / developed super powers enough to have Nic’s beefy-ness projecting a fair distance off the ground! (I could be totally wrong though, I’m bad at math / physics!)
And just want to say a thanks again for all your hard work. Sometimes my commitments of school, family, work, relationships and obligations all piled up on top of each other gets overwhelming and frustrating, and I appreciate having Dreamland to come to for a break from craziness. Thanks for all your effort in keeping The Dreamland Chronicles updated so often!

But that would be merely an aid for inner cinema ^^ My imagination is capable of doing quite nifty stuff. ^^
I agree with most people that the clash was a bit sudden. I like the feel of the moment though. Alex screaming `that`s enough` and then immediately goes for the punch. A pauze in his actions would ruin it a bit I think.
I think it would make more sense if Alex had some speed lines trailing him.

The moment of the punch definitely deserves a show.
You could paint another whole page, from which you see the punch from Nastajia/Felicity/Bognok perspective/point of view. It could be a splash page.
Or maybe from the point of view of Astral and her mom ! Maybe saying something like:
Astral: “Wow !”
Mom: “Oh my!”

No doubt in our minds. Alex slammed into him. Nancy doesn’t yet understand “mass * velocity squared” but the effects are clear to assume he was flying fast. We think Alex worked up the same mental state as when Orion tossed him off the cliff. But Alex has matured (some) and is in better control. That makes him formidable.

I agree with the need for something for between panels 2 and 3, but I also want to suggest enhancing panel 1. If you really want to make Nic evil, I would have him flaming his people to get them away from his treasure. That would really truly show what he is capable of and how far he will go. That would also make Alex’s “That’s enough” more powerful. Otherwise, it’s just name-calling. Not too evil.
That’s the thing: Nic isn’t like a classic evil character from a story. Nic is like a real dictator in that he believes that he’s doing the right thing but others keep trying to stop him from, as he sees it, saving Dreamland. He probably feels a little aggrieved towards humans at the moment because Alex and his brother are humans.
I’ll always remember what an ex-soldier said in an interview (he had seen the after effects of Hitler’s Germany and Pot’s Cambodia) to a radio programme. He said that mark of someone who is truly evil is a great capacity for self-deception. They don’t see the harm they are doing just that their plan, as they see it, is going to make things better.
I agree–most people prefer to see themselves as good, not evil.
I agree with you guys. I was just trying to figure out where Nic really stands at this point. Is he supposed to be really that evil, or is there something else going on. If he did go ahead and flame his own people, then we know he is desperate. What’s the whole story? We will find out in the coming days.
Now satifying as the left hook may be may I point out that had Alex used his sword and not his fist he would have just won? Unless he has some as yet untold reason he wants nic alive this was a vary bad move. Sun Zu said ‘sometimes you must attack the enemy’s walled city’s if so do it quickly’

Now if you want to put it over-the-top; personally, if Alex punched him he needs a better “I’m about to hit you HARD” pose in panel 2.
If this is a tackle, I’d back Nico out of the hole just enough to see Alex’s boots to let us know that he’s there and following through with the hit.

from the looks of alex as he was flying he didn’t tackle he did a right cross upper cut by using his momentum from flying and the way he was flying in i say he came in low and let him have it with his new found strenght and momentum when he charged at him basically picture someone flying very fast winding up and holding all that power till he near enough to hit the thing that in the air will not be able to control his center of gravity and will go flying … from the strenght used and power behind it
now comes the fun part does nic stop flying thru the wall or does he get to break another wall due length of his body and weight and keep going till he is stopped or does alex hit him again?
