Hmm. It's now what, three weeks since Alex learned to fly? Why hasn't he been to see the tablets yet? I mean, for all the characters knew, Nicodemus could have returned at any time....

Wait, what plug? They wouldn't do that; they'd use him as a case study, and observe him until they couldn't get any more information from his supposed corpse. THEN they'd bury him alive, thinking he's dead. I suspect that, if he dies in Dreamland, since it's his "soul" or spirit, he'd die in reality. But if he was in Dreamland when his body died in the real world, I'd suspect he'd find out something was wrong - very wrong - when he never "woke up" and suddenly found out he could get tired in Dreamland...

Having grown up with twin sisters, with a front row seat to all the drama between them caused by various boyfriends (and later husbands), I can tell you that Alex's reaction to the growing bond between Dan & Nicole is totally in character. Twins have a bond that we non-twins can never fully understand; and anyone who can be perceived as coming between them (even in the most irrational way) is going to cause some strong, and mostly involuntary, negative emotional reactions.

We haven't seen the same reaction to Nastajia by Dan, simply because he can't see her. So in the irrational, emotional part of his brain, her existence will never be as "real" to him as Nicole's is to Alex. (At least not until and unless he gets to Dreamland, where I predict that he and Nastajia will be fairly cool to each other, at least at first.)

Now just wait until Alex wakes up and he either mixes up what Felicity says, or forgets completely.

Reminds me of Heinlein's characters way to validate identity: one talked with a person about the Television series he claimed to have written, and concluded that he had to have written it, just by the way he knew it and his style of thinking about it. The personal connection--the best way to know someone is real. Even here...

That's kind of it with Alex.
He's not a jerk by any stretch of the imagination.
But he's not the most articulate. And definitely not sensitive enough to notice when people need him to say the right thing.
So he comes off like a jerk.

It's part of his immaturity.
